okay, did the winmerges and there was just too much information to be helpfull.  I guess I will just have to be satisfied that one system has 35 less resources than the other with L4.

And that as with the 1>2 and the 2>3 upgrades, I am losing resources again. If I were more OCD, I would know exactly what's in my library.  but I am not; so I guess it's my own fault for not knowing what's missing to be able to report it, and have someone be able to "fix" it.

With the new syncing happening, I guess I am surprised that the resource counts don't match.

Still I think it would be good to have some way of viewing (printing?) the list of all resources in my L4. Some kind of bibliography with the name of the book, the date and the name of the file. Yea, I know we older ones we are used to having control over our folders and files :-) For me it is not a big deal. But it looks it is for many people here.

I think we are getting a Biblio report, finally. This all shows that the costs of any activity (user resource management specifically) are not fully revealed by the statistics. How much did a simple Bibliography report save support costs of L3, and how many hours of problem solving, forum traffic, and passing the buck would it have saved in the Launch of L4. Another simple measure would have been to enable logging by default with the released versions. Never mind the potential performance hit because we (beta testers) would recommend switching it off if performance is the only issue!

EDIT: I use and recommend a folder compare (Sync) tool as this will clearly show discrepancies, but you can't beat what people are used to!

Google for "Beyond Compare". You can install a fully working evaluation version and it allows you to compare files with the same filename and ignore their type. When you set up a comparison it has a Misc tab with "alignment overrides" and you enter *.lbxlls and *.logos4. You should exclude *.lbxoeb file types from the comparison of L3 and L4 as these are Help and PBB files (do this on the Name Filters tab). On the Comparison tab check "Ignore timezone differences" and allow a 59 second tolerance (these are not crucial, but do help).  When you perform the compare just check for Orphans to instantly show missing files.

Just a quick question, how do you determine the number of resource, is there a resouce list or count that we can lookup in logos 4?

I have the same issue. I owned v3 scholars gold before with a lot of extra books collected over the years. I upgraded to platinum and even some of the books in the platinum version are not there. For example if I look in Library for "reverse"...expecting to get any of the many Reverse Interlinears" it comes up empty.

There were at least six in version 3 gold but none are in version 4 now.

if I look in Library for "reverse"...expecting to get any of the many Reverse Interlinears" it comes up empty.

The reverse interlinears are disguised by their English bible name eg. ESV, NASB95, NKJV, KJV (new). to determine if it is an interlinear look for Interlinear at the top of the window.

They are not there. None of them come up in the names of the Bibles (ESV, NASB, etc), interlinear, or using the term "reverse."

Just to clarify, you do not have any ESV, or NASB Bibles?

Look at this screen shot:

Type what I did in the Command window - top underlined

Look for the Interlinear button - top "circle"

Look for the Interlinear at the bottom - bottom "circle"

Tell us what you get and see.

Give us a screen shot if you can.

Thanks, Steve.

I've been refering people to the wiki, but will have to keep watching  where things are.

Dave, did put his video in there, but it is less visible that I think it should be. There ought to be a page of video links including Logos' and others that are well identified.

As we all work together we'll see the volume go down and people getting productive more and more.

I believe it was the license report that would list "unknown resource" with an LLS: number.  It wasn't perfect but it at least indicated a discrepency that we could then attempt to reconcile.  I think some similar tool would be helpful here.

I agree, and I'd love to see this in L4.

The good news is that if you load L4, and L3, sync your licenses in L3 - than in the L3 license report the L4 sources will show up.

It isn't elegant, but it works.

Dear Brother!              Peace and Joy in the Lord to you always!                Wow!  Thanks for that information.  Much appreciated.  I looked in L3 - under account summary - and - there - in L3 - was all my L4 "stuff"            --                     my Gold LE - all listed                 and            my Platinum - all listed              and           my Portfolio - all listed

It was really nice to see it all together.           I "trusted" that I had all my resources --    faith!            ...    But!    It's nice to see it listed - so neat and orderly!       *smile*

Logos 4 with everything else:

* Theological Journal Library Volume 11

Jonathan,

If you ordered TJLv11 from galaxie, you will have to download it to L3 then open L4 and it will find those resources and download them into your library.  I had to do this with the Sir Robert Anderson Library from Galaxie. It took just a few more steps but worked well.

I ordered it from Logos, as I order everything.  I was sent no download link, and nor is there any download option for them on the Logos site.  On the offchance that they needed to be downloaded through L3 as an update, I opened L3 and downloaded all available updates.  This simply updated a few books I already have, without downloading TJLv11 or the IVP books.  Neither L3 nor L4 have any idea that they exist.

TLJ11 and the IVP collection are both CD-ROM only products. (You can tell this because you're automatically charged shipping.) As a result, you'll have to wait for the discs to arrive, and install them into Logos 3. Once you've done that, you'll then find you'll be able to download them into Logos 4. Alternatively, you can apparently ring Logos and ask them to add them to your account so you don't have to do the install, but you may find the current hold times not worth your while.

Yes, there are other users who have felt the same way.  Dan, I appreciate you response.  May I recommend that a shortened version of your post be made available in the FAQ site?  I think that will help many others.

I am not worried at all about Logos resources.  I have worried about resources from other companies.  But I have been checking and so far have found them in L4.

Hi,

I am also having an issue with missing L4 Resources on a new install of Logos 4.  I got some fabulous advice from Jon on the first page of this thread, about using "WinMerge" to help narrow down the issue.

Jon said:

I suggest installing something like WinMerge, a free and open source file comparing program. Then either 1) copy your Logos 4 resources directory on one of the computers to eg a usb key, or 2) if they're networked; share the resource directory on the network.

Run WinMerge -> Open -> Enter the paths to the two resource directories and run a compare. (It will be faster if you go into Options -> Compare and change the file compare setting to Date modified and Size rather than full file compare.)

This will take probably about 5-10 minutes all up, but it will tell you exactly what files are in the one with 3999 that aren't in the one with 3965 without having to go through them manually; post up what you discover here and maybe it will be come clear what's going on... Smile

In my situation, I had my original Logos 4 install on a Pentium 4 computer with only 1Gig of RAM.  Since upgrading to Logos 4 from Libronix 3, I was able to bump my hardware up a notch to an OptiPlex 745 with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4Gig of RAM to see if my Logos 4 performance would improve.  At this point, I've only discovered a discrepancy in the number of files when comparing my established Logos 4 Resources directory on the Pentium 4 with my new install of Logos 4 on the OptiPlex 745.  I'm sure the bulk of the discrepancy is from some e-Bible libraries that I've purchased independently of Libronix 3 (which I upgraded to Logos 4 on the Pentium 4 computer.)  So that when I did a completely new install on the OptiPlex 745, those Resources were not carried over.

Click to view the "WinMerge" results

As you can see from the "WinMerge" results, there are 56 files that are present in the Logos 4 directory (on the Pentium 4) that was upgraded from Libronix 3.  But, the surprising results were that the new install (on the OptiPlex 745) has 5 files that are not included on the original upgrade to Logos 4.

All of this said in order to ask this question:  "Would I hurt either installation if I make BOTH directories the same?"  In other words, if I copy the 56 that are missing over to the new installation (which are originally from e-Bible libraries on the Pentium 4) and if I copy over the 5 missing files from the new installation (from the OptiPlex 745) to the established installation on the Pentium 4 - will there be any repercussions to either installation, outside of having to re-index?

Thanks, David

Hi Again,

In looking at the WinMerge results again, I came up with
another question.  There are 38 files
that are different between the two directories, and as far as I can tell, the
difference is in the file date only.

So, would there be a problem with me taking the file with
the NEWEST date from each of the 38 files in question, and overwriting the file
with the older file date - between each of the two directories?

Thanks again, David

No. Do not directly copy anything to the L4 \Resources folder. Put the larger resource folder on a USB drive, and from the Command box of L4

• type scan E:\Resources   (the path of the resources on the USB drive)
• if correct the command will be echoed under Tools. Click that to confirm.
• restart L4

It will do what is necessary, including indexing.

NB. Don't try to be fancy with only putting "missing"/"newer" files on the USB drive as you may miss some important non-Resource files!

Thank you so much for your very fast reply to my question!

Fabulous advice, Dave!  Thank you so much.  My new Logos 4 install on the "new" OptiPlex 745 computer is indexing as I write this!  [Y]  So that takes care of the 56 files from the old system that were NOT present in the new install of Logos 4.  But what do I do about the 5 files present in the "new" install of Logos 4 that are not on my Pentium 4?  I supposes it really doesn't make a difference (other than wanting to know how to resolve it), because as soon as I'm sure that Logos 4 is working on the OptiPlex, I will remove Logos 4 from the Pentium 4.

Thanks, David
