We attempted to use the new Web Page item tonight and the page we were using had a video in it that required flash and when we fired the web page item we got the screen below:

When I go to the page outside of Proclaim, the video plays fine.

I have been able to play youtube videos, but the video is slow and choppy. Proclaim may need to do some work implementing whatever web engine is under the surface so that it can play things smoothly. (I have only tested the web feature on the mac side of things so far.)

Platform Details for Alpha/Beta Testing Reference:

    • Windows 7 Home Premium x64
    • Intel Core2 Duo P7450 @ 2.13GHz
    • 6GB DDR3 RAM

I have not seen that behavior. Does this tend to occur with a specific video, or for all videos? Does it happen more with HD content?

    Some
browsers, like Google Chrome, include a version of Flash that is only usable
from inside of Chrome. In order to play Flash videos the "Netscape"
version of Flash needs to be installed on your computer.

    Navigate to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
and select your OS platform. There is only one version for Mac OS X but for
    Windows select "Other Browsers"

Once Flash is installed you should be able to play Flash
    content from inside Proclaim.

    Ok, just ran some experiments.

I added youtube.com and vimeo.com as web items to test video from a couple different sources. I used thepianoguys for test clips on youtube, and timelapse videos for vimeo.

When playing back in proclaim, both sites had smooth audio and stuttering video.

If I clicked the fullscreen icon on either site, the video would disappear. Pressing escape revealed that the video was indeed running fullscreen, but behind the proclaim window. The odd part was that it was running perfectly smoothly whether at low resolution or, in the case of the vimeo clips, at very high HD resolution. Reducing the video back to its windowed format in Proclaim brought the herky-jerkies back.

One final experiment involved tweaking the URL of a youtube clip (trailer for Kirk Cameron's new film Monumental) to immediately play in fullscreen mode. This allowed the video to open in fullscreen mode successfully inside of Proclaim, but it was then jerky as well.

Hypothesis: On the Mac platform, at least, it appears that when Proclaim is hosting video playback it is unable to produce a smooth framerate, at least on my system. When a web browser is hosting the the playback natively, the laptop has no difficulty no matter what resolution.

My particular Mac is one of the old 2.4GHz MacBook's (not pro) with 8GB of RAM. So am I an anomaly, or are you able to reproduce any of this?

EDIT: I tried installing the version of flash suggested by Allen, but I am still seeing the same results.

I'm having similar results as Chris. I have slow bandwidth to begin with (380kbps) so I can really tell when something is slower. When I watch any video on youtube in 240p in Firefox or iExplorer, the buffer is much fast than the play rate so watching is uninterupted. When I watch any same video in Proclaim, the play speed catches the buffer speed causing pauses. Are video streams piggybacked through Proclaim's content servers? I just wondering why the lag time inside of proclaim. Our church is not planning for now to use video so no big deal for me, I just wanted to say Chris is not the only one.

Yes, we are seeing this as well. Our developers are aware of the issue and are looking into it.

I'll take a look at the Bandwidth issue you mentioned, though there shouldn't be a reason why it would be different in Proclaim.

Web page items access the internet the same way that any other browser does, so we're not adding any extra endpoints.

The best video performance will be obtained by using the
fullscreen icon in the Flash player. This allows Flash to take full control
over the display to get the best performance. That said we have two known
issues with the Flash fullscreen feature.

Currently the Flash fullscreen video is always displayed on
the primary monitor. The workaround is to make the projector be the primary monitor
and move the Proclaim main window to the secondary monitor.

Also on the Mac version only the Presentation window will
not go behind the fullscreen Flash video, we will be shipping a fix for that
    shortly.

I've never installed the "Other Browser" version on my PC at home and it didn't have any issues playing inside Proclaim (except for the full screen only on primary monitor issue).  On the PC at church, where only IE9 is used and is also the only browser installed is where the issue is.  I can try installing the other version and test it the next time I'm at the church, which will probabl be Saturday at the earliest, and I'll let you know how that turns out.  I should mention that the particular video we were attempting to play was on the rightnowtraining.org site which uses the Delve Player, which seems to be a customized wrapper for flash.

On the issue of the full screen secondary monitor bug, re you guys close to having a fix?

    Thanks

Chris, I am wondering how you are "tweaking" the URL of YouTube videos to make it immediately play in full screen?

You can use the embed URL from YouTube to get in full screen.

The method I used is as follows:

Let's say you have the following video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=[video id goes here]

The trick is to simply reformat it like this:

    http://www.youtube.com/v/[video id goes here]

Here is a "real-world" example (Nearer My God to Thee for 9 Cellos by thePianoGuys):

    http://www.youtube.com/v/gosY-UrpHcA

This method is what I would recommend as well, but it is not currently supported on Windows. We hope to be rolling out a fix for this in our next release.
