If you want
to build your Logos library, Community Pricing is by far the best deal. It is a
cooperative effort where we work together to find the highest price that we
will pay that will cover the production costs of a new product. It’s primary
purpose is to get a product into production, not to determine a price related
to the product’s value. It involves how many of us there are and how much money
we have to contribute. The fair part of it, is that in the end we all pay the
same price.
Here are
some recent deals:
Classic
Commentaries on Genesis, 22 vols, shipped at $40 now selling at $199.95.
Classic
Commentaries on Galations, 24 vols, shipped at $40, now selling at $169.95
Great
Commentary of Cornelius A Lapide, 8 vols, shipped at $25, now selling at $139.95.
Great Texts
of the Bible, 20 vols, shipped at $30, now selling at $249.95.
These are
not even the best deals, but only recent ones that have shipped. If you miss
the Community Price, you will have to pay the fair price.
I have bids
on every Community Pricing item. My strategy is to pay the projected price
unless its over $50. In that case I bid $50 regardless of the product. This
currently amounts to about $2600, but spread over the period it takes for these
products to get funded and produced. If the bidding is closing and my bid is
failing, then I evaluate whether I’m willing to raise my bid to get the
product.
The
Community strategy fails when there is a group that really wants a product and
bids higher that most are willing to pay. This results in a stalemate if there
are not enough people willing to pay the high price. That’s what is happening
to the Classic Commentaries on Revelation which has a high and a low group and
neither group has enough people to meet the production cost. There are only 10
products currently in Community Pricing that are over $50. If more people get
interested in Community Pricing, we should be able to fund any product for
under $50 each.
