Getting Update Error 7 on download of resources

In Dec I updated my Logos 4 to Logos 4 Gold. Although I use Logos 4 on my main computer I keep Libronix running for times when I want something faster than Logos. Also it is useful on my netbook which is too wimpy to run Logos 4. When I try and update using the ScholarsLibraryGold(LE)AutoUpdate file it spends some time downloading resources and then crashes withe error code 7 when it tries to download ftp://ftp.logos.com/lbxbooks/darby.lbxlls. I have repeated this a few times and it always crashes at this point.

Unfortunately when I try it again it starts downloading from the beginning so everything I have already downloaded until that point has to be downloaded again, which has cost me money this month to cover the extra bandwidth.

I am assuming from the error message that this resource is no longer available @ logos.com. If this is the case it is possible for the update files to be updated to include the actual resources available, or for a list of resources I should unselect before I set this task running again. If this error message doesn't mean that can someone please tell me how to avoid it.

I recognise that Libronix resources will not be updated after March, but I would like to get my Libronix library updated as much as possible before this date with resources I have already purchased.

With thanks,

Mark

    Hi,

On looking elsewhere I have just found that this thread (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/47059.aspx) makes reference to update scripts that download the KF resources for L3 (http://wiki.logos.com/KF_Resources_for_Logos_3),but I have the JG library which I'm guessing from the text for the order has more resources. Will there be update scripts for the JG library?

    Mark again.

Upgrading to the JG library, you won't loose anything, but you might gain something. Logos upgrades always work this way: you never loose what you already have. You keep what you have. I don't remember what the change was between KF and JG, but I don't think it was very big.

Also, Logos said they won't produce more Libronix resources after March 30, what they have will still be available, at least for now.

BTW here are a few more update scripts for you:

Update your current version to latest version of LDLS (3.0g)
    http://www.logos.com/media/update/30gAutoUpdate.lbxupd

    Update LDLS Addins
    http://www.logos.com/media/update/LogosAddinsAutoUpdate.lbxupd

    Update LDLS DataFile types
    http://www.logos.com/media/update/DataFilesAutoUpdate.lbxupd

    Update LDLS Resources
    http://www.logos.com/media/update/ResourceAutoUpdate.lbxupd

And if you haven't done it yet:

it spends some time downloading resources and then crashes withe error code 7 when it tries to download ftp://ftp.logos.com/lbxbooks

This is not limited to autoupdate. If you try to manually download files from Logos ftp you will get the same results. I am also getting an error message of "file not found" even though I can see the file in the directory.  My guess is there may be a very large group of Libronix 3 users who want to secure  an archive of their resources before Bob Pritchett pulls the life support from the patient. [:'(]

Whatever the reason, I am particularly perturbed because I have spent the last 4 weeks trying to install Logos 4 and Libronix 3 on to my new laptop. I have Portfolio Edition and have installed and completely indexed TWICE only to totally crash again. The third time was the charm for Logos 4.

Libronix 3 has been downloading just fine using the scripts contained in my invoices. ("installing to previous versions") but when I tried to use the link in the Wiki to automate my Portfolio Base Package Edition, it crashed big time. EVERY file failed. No data even began to download.

I know I can re-install the old stuff from CD but I trusted Logos when they encouraged us to switch to download. I quit ordering by CD and have thousands of resources I presently can not get into my Libronix library. It is still March so I should still have access. If we are putting all of our eggs in one basket (the cloud,) it better be there when we need it. (17 days straight trying to install both on one laptop. [:@] )  H E L P !

PS  I still love Logos and am absolutely giddy to have the software & resources. Really.

For the moment downloading seems to be working. Let us hope and pray that does not change. [8]

It is about a fourth done. I am using the Wiki link for Portfolio again.

I tried using several of the Libronix download scripts this week and gave up because of the Error 7.

I used an ftp client to go to the ftp site and didn't have any problems.  Of course I have to figure out which files I need that way, so I didn't get very far.

I tried that earlier today and every file was failing. The downloader said the files are not present!?

I am not sure about the Logos Wiki link working either. When it fails at 85% it abandons everything it had already successfully downloaded. It would be nice if it resumed at the point of failure.

Mmmm .... my L3 is parked nice and clean. $12,000 worth (paid; not 'retail' which just for the record is $28,000; my insurance company was a bit suspicious of the latter number, chatting about what insurance is not for). And it's running on 3 different Windows versions.

Not to be too morbid, but I looked around at Bible software users older than me; it looks like software use gets put to bed about 75 or so. Then it's books, and finally for my Dad, the Bible at ~90. So, if their present is my future, this will work out great.

So we're ready for March 31 2012 (those Mayans are such jokers).

From this and earlier posts it seems that there is a bug here. Also I agree about the "abandoning everything". Why can't it just check what has been downloaded and pick up from where it left off? But if you rerun a script which you have already run it tries to download everything again even if you have everything on your PC OK.

Like SuperTramp, I have had to reinstall onto a new computer, but unlike him have got back all of Logos 4 and most of my downloaded files. For me it's just the Gold Edition that I want to download the resources for.

I would just like to be able to have an up to date copy of all the resources I have paid for on my computer (and backed up locally), so I don't have to download anything again and can reinstall L3 if required in the future.

Is it possible for a Logos staffer to look at this for us please?

    Mark

P.S. I also like Logos, as a look at my credit card will show!

Yeah, I think Bob Pritchett must own the trees in my back yard. [ip] I am going to refer this thread to a few people at Logos. Hopefully somebody can fix it for good. Logos should make an "Archive DVD" available for ALL former resources sold in previous versions. It would help users protect their investments.

Sure wish I had access to my 10K+ resources  I have been bed-ridden for 11 weeks and have at least 10 more to go. If I were the great Apostle Paul, I would email Bob and and tell him to forget the coat and just get the resource download scripts working this weekend. (Please make them resume where they failed and skip repetitive "problem files.")

fwiw: I deleted a long post.  [:#]     Let us focus on the blessings. [A]   The rest will get worked out. [C]

Anybody try downloading today? I just began the Wiki linked script for Libronix again. Am I wasting time?

  • Anybody try downloading today?

Tried to download Baker Exegetical Commentary (BEC) on the New Testament update for Jude and 2 Peter resource, download progresses to 99 % then starts over, which repeats 6 times, then shows error code 7

Irony: all the other BEC NT resources downloaded and installed fine using libronix update script from my orders page.

Also verified Fix for IE9 with LDLS3 was in registry before initiating libronix update.

    Keep Smiling [:)]

I am just about done successfully downloading Portfolio Edition LE base package from the Wiki link. I run the update file and when it presents the list of files it will be installing I uncheck everything and then select about 20% of them (alphabetically) I run the shorter install and it goes without any error. It is slow but it works.

fwiw: the Libronix 3  Wiki download script for Portfolio Edition LE faulted on me many dozens of times. I kept making adjustments to the download by un-checking the files that kept  fualting the download.

As best as I can identify, these are the three resources that will stop the script and erase all the successful downloads achieved so far.

I will now resume downloading directly from my invoice links. They appear to be the only trustworthy scripts. [:(]

I'm sorry you're having problems with the LDLS resource updates. That whole system has been left by itself for years now and continues to grind away, unsupervised and somewhat unmonitored. Most of our efforts are going into newer, better systems. I've fixed a few problems and updated the process and I believe that all the Auto Update scripts should be working now. You can access them from the links on this page: http://wiki.logos.com/Re-install_resources_for_Libronix_3.

As for scripts found in your new resource invoices, those scripts are generated on the fly by the web server and are intended to be used right away, as they reflect the status of the resource on the FTP server at the time that the script is generated. If at a later time we update that resource, the script becomes invalid, as it contains the size of the file, which will have changed on the FTP server. It's not the best design, but it's what we have. All that to say, it is possible that a script you have in an invoice may fail. The good news is that Logos 4 doesn't work that way!

If you have any more problems, please reply with a copy of the Auto Update script that failed, and I will fix it right away.

There was a problem with the automated system that keeps the LbxBooks FTP site up to date which caused those scripts not to be uploaded to the web server. That problem has been fixed, and the scripts are ready. I ran some tests on them and they should be good to go, but if you have any problems, reply back with and Libronix Update log file and the script that caused the problem, and I'll fix it.

    Bryan,

Thank you for your very full answer to the issues raised in this thread. I can understand why Logos doesn't want to invest too much time in overhauling a system which is being phased out, but I am very grateful that you have updated things so we can download the resources we have already purchased before the system ends.

I will be trying the new script later and will post back how I get on.

    With every blessing,

    Mark

The JG script worked for me and streamed completely through.  I am still working on my new order page i.e. newsfllifbble.lbxlls.  There are quite a few for me, Thank you Logo's what a good heart, no great heart and commitment.
