Using this function is not readily apparent, but VERY helpful. If you open a section/window of the desktop into a "floating window" (right click) and later close it, the default layout  section/window disappears from your desktop. Using the F11 function does the same thing (if changes are desired once window is open, move cursor to top of the window for choice bar to appear), but when you press F11 again, the window disappears, but the default section/window in the desktop is still there.
