Kindle/iPad
I am not a Mac User. I also do not intend to do heavy research on either a Kindle or iPad, more for reading pleasure. I am certain there is a thread out there regarding this, but I have not found it.
What are your thoughts? Can Logos be used on a Kindle? Which would you prefer? What is better? I don't have an iPhone, but had an Android (which I enjoyed)...I had to downgrade to a regular flip phone (and most certainly enjoy it!). I didn't use much apps on my droid either.
I don't mind spending the Kindle price range, but the iPad is mostly out of the question. Can I use Logos on a Kindle? Fire? Would you suggest it? Experience? Thoughts? Ease?

The Logos Android app can be used on a Kindle fire - there are a range of discussions on this in the Android forum (http://community.logos.com/forums/96.aspx), see http://community.logos.com/forums/p/44205/328961.aspx for an example including pointers to others.
The capability of the Android app is behind the iOS app at the moment so - today - functionality on the iPad would be much better.
Neither the Android or iOS app provide the full functionality of the desktop / laptop application.
Hope this provides some pointers, but for more information I would look at some of the threads in the Android forum as above

You cannot use Logos on a normal Kindle, but apparently you can on the Kindle Fire with the Android App. I have an iPod Touch and an Android phone, so I have both mobile apps, but this is considering a smaller screen than a Kindle Fire/iPad. If I were making the choice between Kindle Fire and iPad, I would consider an older iPad refurbished against the Fire (http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB292LL/A), the difference is $100. The iOS app at this point is better than the Android, but that could change (or not) depending on Logos. For basic reading a Kindle Fire would work fine, I would think.
Whether you go with Kindle or something else ... for normal reading and not research, buying the Kindle ebook over the Logos ebook where both are available can save you money. I have both Kindle and Logos titles. I can get more for my reading budget with Kindle books even though it requires a little more work in doing the "heavy research". I do wish Logos prices were more consistent with ebooks instead of their physical hardcover counterparts.

Inexplicably, my Dad bought my Mom a fire for Christmas, and then asked me to "help her with it." One of the most frustrating gadgets I have ever messed with.

The Vyrso eBooks offered by Logos seem to be competitively priced plus Vyrso has specials, which often include a free eBook for day (sometimes more). Thankful for many free Vyrso eBooks (have read several eBooks, which have been encouraging).
Likewise Thankful for Logos resources that have more extensive tagging, including read aloud.
Also Thankful for numerous free Logos Bible Software updates, which are funded by resource purchases.

Logos works as an eReader on the Kindle Fire (not the regular Kindle, as has been mentioned). It's available in the Kindle 'store' for free. You can't download it from the Android app store, since that store doesn't recognize the Kindle fire as an Android device (?!).
Vyrso is not available in the Kindle store (last I checked), and can't be downloaded from the Android store either (for the same reasons mentioned above). I was able to get Vyrso by downloading the beta directly from the web site (sorry, not sure where to look for it now), though I had to by-pass the Kindle safety feature that blocks installation of apps outside of its store.
The biggest problem with using either Logos or Vyrso as an eReader is that my Logos library is quite large and all my books show up in both programs. Searching is possible, though the Kindle Fire keyboard is a bit small, and I find myself typing wrong letters frequently (less, as I get used to it). Having "fat" fingers doesn't help.
Both apps work as an eReader, though highlighting is not available on the Kindle (or any Android version, as far as I know). I haven't tried to do anything more than read resources with the Logos app, and at this point, wouldn't consider doing anything more than reading. It's just to small of a screen, and too clumsy an environment for more than that.

mmaglaya, I agree with a lot that has been said so far, such as considering the ipad1 @ 299 over the Fire @199. Still, if in a crunch, the Fire would be a great reader and work with Logos mobile capability. Also noted that while some Kindle books are cheaper, and is a greater variety, Vyrso has many good deals, too, and you keep all things integrated with Logos. Logos itself has great deals on some things. Not an either/or scenario, but "both/and."
I have the standard (3rd gen, I think) Kindle. I have read Logos stuff in two ways. One is sending portions of my Logos books as a document and reading it. It isn't hard, but does take some intentionality--Ie, I don't have internet at home, so I need to know what I am going to read and then copy/convert/send to my kindle. But that doesn't take that long. Under 5 minutes. What I like is the e-ink readability in bright sunlight, eg. Also, you can access biblia.com on the experimental browser (I got the free 3G version, which is cool when you don't have internet). But really, on basic Kindle, that is a real pain. but you can.
Had i not gotten a total surprise gift of $400 for my bday, I would have set my sights on the Fire, just to start enjoying reading sooner.

I like & use the kindle fire with logos and vyrso books, though if you can afford it, the iPad is undoubtedly better if you prefer a larger screen size.

I have used both a fair amount. The Kindle app is definitely behind the iOS app in many areas. As a simple Bible reader app with access to your Logos library it is fine. If you want notes, highlighting, and do a lot of original languages it will not be so fine. There is basic Reverse Interlinear lookup but I found it a little harder to see and there seemed to be some display anomalies. That said the Kindle Fire's 7" form factor was a big plus in church. It is easier/more comfortable to hold for long periods of time and is more discreet if you are in a setting where technology might be a distraction. I have switched back to my iPad for now but think both have plusses and minuses.

I'm a Mac guy but love my Fire. Problem is the Logos app is really behind the iPad app. Not sure why you were so frustrated. Its an easy and elegant little tool for reading and comsuming video or music. iPad is better for all around use.Dr. Kevin Purcell, Director of Missions

I never did figure out how to load her kindle books. The UI is clunky. The touch is hyper sensitive. But most of all… its not an iPad.

No, there is currently no Logos app for Windows mobile phones. It is something which has been requested but Logos have given no commitment (as far as I can remember) that this will be something they develop.
You can access your Logos resources on biblia.com using a browser on your Windows mobile phones.

I found an interesting article this morning about my new favorite casual game… Angry Birds Space. The developer decided against developing the new game for Windows Mobile… and has no plans to do so. The original Angry Birds is one of the best selling games on any platform, including Windows Mobile.

Books > Cloud > Select books you want to download.
This requires that the account for the Fire and the regular Kindle are the same. If they aren't, you'll need to contact Amazon and merge the accounts.

As long as you haven't purchased anything on the Kindle Fire, you could deregister it and then add it to the regular Kindle's account. You can have multiple devices on one account.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger and buying a Fire, and I've been reading through various forums. . .I guess I'll understand this more when I buy one, but, what you're saying it not to buy anything on the Fire? Can you buy it on regular Kindle account? I'm new to this and want to have as much info as possible before doing anything.

No, thats not what they are saying… They are saying to make sure you are using the right account. In the case of helping my mother, she didn't know her username & password, so she created a new one.
I would not recommend a Kindle Fire, but there are plenty of others who would disagree. I would honestly rather not have a tablet than to have anything other than an iPad.
