Video Requirements

I have ordered the version 4 silver upgrade going straight acroos from version 3. I have a Pentium 4 2Ghz with 2 Gigs of memory and mainly a GeForce 4200 64Mb video card. My laptop is about 4 to 5 years old.

My question is, does anyone out there have any experience running version 4 with less than the specified video adapter requirements? My card is dedicated video and not shared memory so I can't reallocate memory. I drive a truck and have not even attempted to install it yet.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are several here running with dedicated video. You will most likely experience some lag because of it. All I can suggest is that you give it a try and see how it goes.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I am going to give it a try but I have been anticipating this for a week now and a few more days to get home yet. I just don't want to get my hopes upa nd the be crushed when my hardware won't run it. Especially after losing a day of home time to install and index it. I am going home just to install this new version. No way to find a internet connection ata truck stop taht would handle never mind allow a 6GB+ download.

Hope someone else out there has or has seen someone else with a similar setup.

Not sure why I didn't think of it earlier, if it's any consolation I ran the beta on a P4, 2.4GHz with 512MB RAM. WinXP SP3. laptop with onboard video set to I think 128MB (I can't remember and it's dead now).

It had some lag, but so did the beta. I think you'll be alright.

My problem is my video memory is dedicated at 64MB. I can deal with the single core issue P4 2Ghz. I just don't know if it's gonna run at all and I already ordered the upgrade.[|-)]

Hello! In case it helps anyone else searching on this topic, I have 64MB onboard video (Via S3G Unichrome Pro IGP), and found that using 16-bit rather than 32-bit color helps with the video artifacts. My display resolution is 1680 x 1050.

Another useful tip that I found on this forum was to set my antivirus NOT to scan the Logos folder and subfolders. That speeded things up. I think for safety I would recommend DO scan upon writing to the Logos folders, if not while reading from them.

I am a bit familiar with this because I have been trying to help my father get his going. Here is what I have found. He has a Dell 1.8 Ghz. Dual Core with 3GB RAM and only a 368 MB Video. He has major lag time in his software starting and his books opening from his passage guide, about 15 seconds from the time he clicks on the title to when the book opens. His computer is 2 years old. I hate to say this, but I am afraid that you are going to experience unacceptable lag times, versus a newer computer with a bigger video.
