My Logos was working great. I then allowed it to update...
I then got the following error message:
Error writing to file: F:\Program Files (x86)\Logos4\System\Logos.Documents.Contracts.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory.
I checked my firewall, Norton 360, and WebRoot SecureAnywhere... Logos was allowed access from all of them...
I then restarted Logos, and chose NOT to update at the startup screen. It indexed my library and I was able to use Logos as I have always been able to. So I rebooted Windows (7 Ultimate) and tried again. I started Logos, and sure enough, it wanted to install the upgrade... I said OK... and got the same error message again
So I tried a restart of Logos, chose NOT to install the update, and all was well with the program.
I thought that I would try the Update Now in the command line of Logos to see if it would either install, or download an additional file or update. No dice... I got the "no updates are available" response in the lower right hand corner. I tried restarting Logos yet once again, and sure enough... it wanted to install the "update"... I said OK, and got the same error message about writing to the file. (Error writing to file: F:\Program Files
(x86)\Logos4\System\Logos.Documents.Contracts.dll. Verify that you have
access to that directory.)
Well, I am not a very patient sort of guy
, so I went into that directory (Logos4\System) and MOVED the Logos.Documents.Contracts.dll file to a different directory altogether on another drive. I then started Logos yet again... and it asked to install an update yet again... I said ok... and WAAA LAAAA .... SUCCESS .... WOO HOO
The reason I am posting this is two fold...
One: If someone else runs into this update install loop, that is how I fixed it for me, and it might work for you...
Two: to let Logos know that the last few times that I have updated my software, there has seemed to be a glitch of some sort each time... It is getting where I am reluctant to let Logos update because of the glitches... (I couldn't log in to my account one of the times -- I found out via the forums that there was a server glitch on Logos's side), but these are frustrations and irritants that should not be...
For the record... I LOVE my Logos software.
I use it daily in reading through the Bible in a year, and doing studies from my Discipleship class (2nd Corinthians right now)... Please test your updates a little more before you push them out to everyone.
Thank you for reading this epistle (if you have made it down this far
) No animals were harmed during the composition of this post... LOL
