I have purposely avoided upgrading my XP SP2 laptop to SP3. Why does L4 require SP3? What is missing in SP2 that L4 needs to function properly? If nothing, is there a workaround?
SP3 brings .NET 3.5 to XP, which is required for Logos 4 to run.
Any particular reason why you're avoiding SP3?
My laptop is also a SP2 so I have not installed L4 yet. I was going to install SP3, but have not had the time yet.

At one time it was possible to download the .NET module separately. If it can still be done, I wonder whether that would suffice (or why not "bite the bullet" and simply download SP3?).
I've avoided XP SP3 because 1) SP2 is working perfectly, 2) SP3 doesn'tadd anything I need, and 3) SP3 has messed up many people's networkconnections.
I already have .NET 3.5 SP1 installed, but L4 must not look for that. Apparently it assumes that if I don't have XP SP3, I don't have .NET 3.5. I'll be upgrading to Win7 in a couple of months, but in the meantime I'd like to use L4. Is there a workaround to trick it into thinking I have SP3?
SP3 is great. As an IT Manager, I recommend it for everyone using XP. I have not run into any issues on the hundreds of machines I have installed it on.
Agreed, here are the many, many fixes that come with SP3:
List of fixes that are included in Windows XP Service Pack 3
Sp3 is the requirement because there is something, most likely in .NET 3.5, that Logos 4 is programmed to use. .NET 3.5 and SP 3 go together, and .NET 3.5 has new "assemblies", or software libraries, with new functionality that is used within Logos 4. So assuming that is true, there is no workaround to an older version that could possibly work.
Some examples that they may be using is there is a newer, simpler, in-line way to manipulate XML data; there are also improvements in threading (multiple tasks executing at once), new ways to collect and organize data as objects, some security enhancements, some changes in the rendering/display technologies, and more. I would have no way of knowing what things they are using, but these enhancements in the programming model provide quite a bit of improved efficiency, performance, and security compared to older ways to do the same thing,
SP 3 has been out for almost 2 1/2 years, so to write software not taking advantage of it would really open a door where a competitive product could be "better" because it takes advantage of better functionality. As we know from looking at Logos circa 2.5 years ago, that's along time for software...
