Libronix Update error prevents installation of Libronix 3.0.2.1 on Windows 7

I finally gave up on Microsoft Vista on which I had installed Libronix 3.0.2.1 and did a clean install of Windows 7 (64-bit). However, when I try to run setup.exe from the original Libronix installation CD, I get the following error:

"You must run Libronix Update before you will be able to use the components included on this disc."

Obviously, there is no way I can run Libronix Update when I have not yet installed the software and would appreciate some guidance on how to solve this issue.

Hi Richard and welcome to the forums!

You're best bet is to install from the internet site: http://www.logos.com/support/downloads/ldls

Some folks don't have any problem with Libronix on Windows7-64 and some have issues with the window-resize. Also you may run into issues with IE9 for which there is a fix.

Also I assume you know Logos4 is available for free (the new version of Libronix). It's been available now for about 2 years. And it uses your present resources.

If I understand you correctly you upgrade/downgraded to Win 7, was the L3[Libronix-Logos is L4] loaded and running when you did this? If it was it should have migrated with the change-over of platform OS’s.

As for the cd, you should be able to call sales and get an upgraded cd or download for the OS.

I did not upgrade to Windows7 from Vista. I saved my data, formatted and partitioned the drive, and installed Windows7. I did this for two reasons: to avoid the many horror stories about Vista to Windows7 migration "upgrades" and to get rid of the "bloatware" that originally came with my laptop. My assumption was that the Logos 3.0.2.1 software which was installed on Vista 64-bit would operate in the Windows7 64-bit environment. It does not and will not even load.

Thanks for the suggestion to download the software. I note that there appear to be significant issues with the Logos 4 application, so I plan to download the Logos 3.0g version.

That's by far the preferred solution for installing Libronix. Note that you will need a patch for IE 9 which comes pre-installed in a new Win 7 ( http://www.logos.com/media/update/IE9-LDLS3.zip )

I am around the forums a lot and haven't heard of consistent "significant issues" with L4 save from some users with exotic unique circumstances (mostly on the Mac side of things). Of course you'll always find people that have learned to use and love Libronix and shy away from anything different or have perfected their workflow in a component that is different or not available in L4. However the application is generally stable and will offer a wide variety of possibilities for research and study.

You should try it yourself by installing L4 (it's free, after all - see http://www.logos.com/4ways ) in parallel to Libronix. They don't interfere with each other.

There is a significant difference between Libronix 3.0 and Logos4: Logos4 has to be installed on each account on the computer and each account must be an administrator account (or the software will not install properly); whereas, Libronix can be installed by an administrator account on the computer and all other standard accounts on the computer have access to the materials. By using an administrator account for Logos4 use, the computer is more exposed to exogenous security threats from the Internet. Microsoft does not recommend using administrator accounts for common Internet access.

I installed Libronix 3.0g (http://www.logos.com/support/downloads/ldls), pressed the red Install button, followed the two part directions. When Libronix was installed, I inserted my Libronix CD, followed the prompts and all is installed and working perfectly.
