Installation crash on Windows XP

I am trying to install from the DVD I recently received from Logos on an AMD 64 machine, 1GB RAM, 256 MB Geforce video card. I have never installed Logos on this machine. We had two laptops and a server fail and I am reduced to a Netbook or this machine. Although the Netbook runs Logos without a hitch, the screen size prohibits doing much more than reading one book at a time.

Anyway, the Logos installation gets to where it opens the program window the first time and crashes within 10 seconds. It doesn't seem to start the indexer before it crashes but I can't be sure as I am not conversant with the programming enough to know from the error log. I am one of those blessed people that hasn't had much problem with Logos from version 3 up till now.

I have enclosed the error log and I really need help. I have no one around me that can help as I am in Mozambique on long term missions assignment and I am the guy that is supposed to know. HELP! Can pay in mangoes when they are in season!. Thanks

The log shows you are attempting to install 4.3 SR-3. The current version is 4.5a SR-1. I suggest downloading the current version from the Logos website. Additionally, that is an extremely low amount of memory on that machine. Logos recommends:

The minimum requirements for running Logos 4 on a PC are:

· Pentium 4 1 GHz (or AMD equivalent- 1.3 GHz or higher)

· 1 GB RAM (2GB for Windows 7 & Vista)

· Windows XP SP3

· DVD-ROM drive (only required for non-downloadable items)

· 12 GB hard drive space on local drive (May require additional space depending on your library).

· 1024X600 Display

· 256 MB DirectX 9 graphics device

· Internet connection required for activation & updates

The recommended requirements for running Logos 4 on a PC are:

· Core 2 Duo 2 GHz

· 3GB+ RAM

· Windows Vista or Windows 7

· DVD-ROM drive (only required for non-downloadable items)

· 1280X1024 display

· 512MB DirectX10 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

· 20 GB hard drive space on local drive (May require additional space depending on your library).

· Broadband internet connection

I assume that you have a restricted internet download capacity else you would not be installing from DVD. 4.3 SR-3 is an old version of Logos from Sept 2011 and it would need to be installed offline and kept offline in order to work . Once it starts sync'ing online there will be problems and it will also try to update your resources. I would advise you to uninstall Logos and reinstall with your internet connection disabled (assuming Logos sent you a license file for your resources?). When Logos starts go to Tools > Program Settings put Use Internet = NO and also set Automatically Download Updates = NO. Then enable your internet connection.

If you don't have a license file then request one from Logos via Email. Also see if they can send you the latest version 4.5a on DVD.

I also note you have 1 MB memory which is rather limiting, so make sure it is the only application running during installation and the subsequent (long) indexing of the resources.

Your post along with Scott's show me my problem. Yes, I am limited by my ISP to 20 GB per month; it is very limiting at times. The overuse costs are extreme to say the least, that is why I attempted to install a part using the disk and allow Logos to download the rest of the books. After the disk installed, it attempted to download an additional 5 GB of material, so I really didn't want to let it download the whole thing. Plus, I don't want to install offline and not get all my new books. I assume, once I logged on it would update and possibly cause me a problem?? I don't have my license codes with me but maybe on an email, I will have to check back through old data. The 1 MB I may not be able to resolve as it is old DDR memory and nowhere to buy things here.

I had three computers fail on me here and it left me in a bit of a pickle. I guess I will fall back to the Netbook until I can get out o the US to get a computer. I have more than 3,100 books (only one part is Persius library so not much bloating of the number with free books) and I just bought all of NT Wright and the Acts commentary by Lloyd-Jones during March Madness. I haven't even opened them yet. I will also use biblia.com for some of my usage.

Enough crying on your collective shoulders. You have helped me. I suspected something like this but had no proof and sought to get opinions from more knowledgeable folk. You have been a Samaritan in the good sense. Thanks.

The license code isn't necessary if you are able to download resources online and it might be better to install from the web link after cancelling Perseus (see below) as this could reduce the total download from 5 GB (maybe wait until next month when you have 20 GB available).

I would ask Logos to remove Perseus free from your account as that will improve performance on your limited computer (1 GB memory, not 1 MB!) and restrict the download needed, because it won't be on the DVD.

Looking for a new computer to get in August when I visit the USA. Lot's to chose from. Have to get AC when I come back also. The office runs close to 100 F during the summer. When run fans on everything but that is not going to be enough.

Mozambique! WOW! Impressive….

Ok, suggestion for added/needed power----maybe when you are here you can go by Lowes or Home Depot and see about a small generator.

I have a friend who is doing Miss-work, and they use one in their office as a means to run their computer, they have it on a separate setup from the rest of other things…..Maybe something like this may help…

Everything is on UPS backup but the temperature is the problem. We don't have air conditioning in the house but I think at least the office will need it in the next hot time. We are heading toward winter now and won't need it until October or so. We are 18 degrees south of the equator. THank you.
