Has anyone been using TheBrain alongside of Logos? I know there has been discussion of Mind Mapping software in general but I'm finding the features of this one in particular to be particularly powerful alongside of Logos.

Hey Halo,
This looks very interesting. Do you recommend the upgrade or is the free version sufficient? What features do you find most useful? Thanks,
-Beloved
This does have some nice features (as well as some limitations). I'm going to try it for a specific function that I'll share if it works out.
You can organize your library with this just click on the link and it will open the book when Logos is open. We could share these organizations with each other so there will not be as much work for each person.

The above is the zipped file for the following.
one thing I really like doing is using the "capture thought Icon" feature. I use it for a verse thought and screen shot the verses in Logos. Then I link to thought to Logos. so if I hover over the thought the verses are displayed and if I click on the thought it jumps me to Logos.
I am still on the free beta. I need to really like the software to drop $200 for it. So far though, I am liking what I see. I like that I can put a link in a Logos note that will jump to a particular thought, too. I like the idea of linking a verse I use in a sermon to a topic thread or cross reference thread as well. Then when I'm looking at the topic the sermon notes are also brought into view.
This is a really cool feature that works great with Logos.
I am using the free beta also. The price is $149 for core and $249 for pro. Steep but maybe?
Halo Hound have you looked at the Brain I posted earlier? The library org possibilities are impressive!

Halo,
Thank you for sharing your early experience. Your biggest pay-off if I follow you, is with sermon prep. And organizing your thoughts and insights as you study the text and develop your sermon. I gather you are somewhat of a visual learner as am I.
I have done a little due diligence and I have turned up what may be some info you and others may find helpful. Shelley Hayduk is a good person to follow on Twitter. She posts info on webinars and other Brain Tech info. I watched one of the latest webinars on beta version 7, it was a good overview of the features of this product. This webinar can be accessed here: http://www.thebrain.com/community/recorded-events/basics/thebrain7/
For me this product is the most tempting of its kind. It plays well with other products and presents data in a familiar and flexible way. I am grateful for your post. Like you though, free is better than $200.00.
This seems similar and $79 for the nonprofit version. http://www.mindjet.com/shop
After spending 3 days testing The Brain 6 & 7, I find I prefer the feature set in Inspiration 9 although the display of the network in the Brain is superior in 6 and even better in 7. And Inspiration is considerable cheaper.

Hi Ud Laugh 2,
Not easy to determine for sure, but mindjet GUI does not appear to be as flexible. And most I doubt would qualify as nonprofit or academic ie university thus real cost for entry level program is $240. Correct me if I'm wrong. I would still lean towards thebrain.

Hi MJ,
How well does Inspiration interface with L4? I really like the function that allows the mindmap to morph btwn outline form and map form. Does Inspiration get info from your browser etc.? Thanks in advance for your answer.

Beloved,
I am a pastor of a church and I qualified.

Yes it does. Recently it added the web / shared function. It uses links in essentially the same manner as The Brain. The Brain has better functions in typing the thoughts and relationships. Inspiration has better presentation functions. For my purposes Brain 6 is easier to use than Brain 7 but only Brain 7 supports directional relationships. I haven't explicitly tested the import function in either software.
I'm thankful for this thread as I didn't know about either of them...but gonna definitely try it.

Yes, this is cool. I have been experimenting with TheBrain also. This feature is very neat. I have MindManager and it almost works the same. It does not allow you to attach a screen shot so easily. You can attach a graphic that was made from a screen shot, but that takes too long. But, the hyperlink function works very well.
But, I had never tried to do this until I saw your post... Cool, very cool.
Very interesting topic. I'm currently experimenting with various ways to prepare and organize sermons. I've tried taking notes in LOGOS, mind mapping ideas and sermon flow with xmind, and organizing with notebook. Issues I've had are that it is too cumbersome and time wasting to move between programs, no single program is good for everything, and whatever I do I want to be able to do on a mac and on an iPad. Any suggestions?
