Classic Commentaries

I decided to check out the list of remaining "Classic Commentaries" collections, sorted by Progress.

They're mostly within the range of $20-50, and the ones that are shipping soonest have come down to the lowest price. Obviously the Revelation one is not fitting the pattern.

After the four that are over the top come off the list in the next week, there are four more that are gathering interest and are close behind. Then there will only be five left, of which Revelation will be the topmost one. My prediction is that once this second tier of Ezekiel, Daniel, Romans and Acts goes off into pre-pub land, and people are sitting there wondering what CPs to bid on next, sanity will prevail and more people will bid $50 on it. (The current high point for any other of these collections besides Revelation.) Then, if all goes well, it will come down to $40 or even $30 before bidding closes. I hope this all happens within the next 2 months or so, but I'm probably being optimistic.

Just a note for perspective Classic Commentary Collection CP'ers... I've happily invested in a few of these DCC's (Dirt Cheap Collections [:D] ) and arrived at a couple of conclusions for my future participation:

The stilted language and prose of 100+ years ago can be both difficult to wade through and distracting. It takes me far longer to excavate something meaningful from these books than from a contemporary commentary simply because the flowery form of expression.
They are a gold mine of quotations. I counted something like 10 quotes from church fathers, translators, Scriptures, etc., on page 2 of Eadie's commentaries. While this is fabulous if I am searching for a pithy quote, it detracts from my (admittedly rather limited) ability to absorb the intent or meaning of the writer.
As has been noted elsewhere on the forums, the technical accuracy has (at least in some cases) been superceded by recent scholarship, so the value shifts to application-for-daily-living rather than concise interpretation. And there certainly IS value here! And one certainly has to work to get at it (well, that's been my experience so far).

All-in-all, the DCC's are an amazing value if I treat them like casual reading vs. comparative references. So, I recommend that my fellow forum readers take the time to preview a collection, if you like it, by all means bid! Then make a Classic Commentaries Collection that is separate from, and therefore separately searchable, your "go to" commentaries.

It would just take one or two of those bidding at $160 to lower to $50 and we could have a new peak, which in turn would probably start attracting more bidders which would get this into production quicker. The link is:

Otherwise this set will continual it's slow progress until (and if) the $50 peak overtakes the larger one.

Logos will soon send an email notifying recipients that the price will go up when the CP closes on 04/20. What they should do is say exactly what the price will be, since in the case of these Classic Commentaries the pre-pub prices are usually 4-6 times the CP price once they get to Pre-pub territory. Including that price in The CP-closing-soon email would likely encourage a large flock of recipients to buy in.

Thereby reducing their profit even more. How the heck much do you guys want from Logos anyway? Is it not enough that they have made these resources available at ridiculously low prices for months ahead of a price increase? And even then the prepub price will be lower than the final price. But gee - we want MORE!
