Can I make a printout of fthe library list /

I was following the forum(Logos4 Training) about the "Bible Facts", because they are greyed out in my version of Logos 4.5a SR-1 (4.51.0.2057). I bought the SESB v.3 in November 2011 and when I wanted to install it in February 2012, I was guided to the Logos 4 version. Maybe that is the reason why the "Bible Facts" are not included.

I got the answer: The Bible facts come with any of the Logos4 Base Packages, which you can see in "www.logos.com/comparison". The SESB does not include Bible facts, and that is why they are grey out. You will only be able to access the things you purchased with the SESB. The only way you could access Bible Facts would be to purchase a Logos base package (apart from 'Home'). -: The Bible facts come with any of the Logos4 Base Packages, which you can see in "www.logos.com/comparison".

Now before I decide to make another purchase (the SESB v3 cost me ca. 300 USD and has about 60 books) I want to make sure, that I select a Base Package with books ( resources), which I still do not have. To get an overview of my present resources I want to make a printout of them.

1) How can I make such a print out ?

2) Another Base Package (probably also ca.200 USD or more) is rather expensive. Isn’t it possible to buy the needed resources, which are needed for the Bible facts) ?

Erich, the "Bible Facts" (I had to think over this, until I realized that this is the official summary title for "Biblical People", "Biblical Places" and "Biblical Things") are no resource, but are included into L4. The minimum you need to have in order to use these is the http://www.logos.com/minimalcrossgrade which is $70.

The Minimalcrossgrade also gives you a lot of L4 functionality and some relevant resources (such as reverse interlinears). I personally went with this mini-base package and SESB plus selected resources.

You may want to look at http://wiki.logos.com/Free_Logos_Books (see whether you qualify for the ESV and ESV-related freebies ) as well.

Hallo Mick, Your suggestions were a great help to me. Many thanks ! I looked into the Minimalcrossgrade and also in the Gradeup and also in the ESV web page. All these are primarlily aimed for English speaking people. I have no problem with the English resources. But my native language is German and therefore I started with the SESB v.3 , which uses mostly German resources. From your lines I see, that you also started with SESB and then selected more resources.

I ‘ll probably decide for The Minimalcrossgrade and then hope to buy some selected resources. This is indeed another question; How can I buy such selected resources and no packages? Personally I am also interested in a Synopsis of the four Gospels, preferable in German, but also ok in English.

You may just buy them through the Logos website. Alternatively you can send an email to the Sales department or email a salesperson.directly.

Logos has many sales promotions (just over is "March Madness", there usually is a promo around Christmas), sends out many special offers via email - sometimes it is even better to look around for third party resellers ob Logos products - and has a daily Twitter deal giving 50% on a certain product. These rebates work with a coupon code that you fill in in the shopping cart

There is one synopsis (Aland's) in the SESB and there are some four I think in the Minimal Crossgrade, so you most probably won't need to buy one extra.

To elaborate a bit more on what Graham said (and to the fact that most of the hits in his link are no synopsis resources): In Logos 4 a synopsis usually is just an internal table that tracks the pericopes the respective author deemed to be parallel. Thus, you may use any bible you want (e.g. read Aland's Greek synopsis in the NIV and a KJV-based version in the German Luther translation). We had a longish thread in Summer 2011, IIRC, where we discussed these things and the differences of the synopsis resources.

All the Synopses I've looked at use one's favorite Bible: English, German, Swedish, whatever.

Erich, don't miss to check the Prepub and Community Pricing pages, and keep an eye out for sales. And make sure, before you start buying resources separately, that you won't end up paying more than they would have cost you through a package. Even if you only need 10-20% of a package, the package price is still usually cheaper. Avoid paying the full price for anything, unless you need it urgently. And even then, call or e-maile Sales to see if they can't offer you a better price. They often can. (The exception would be the Minimal Crossgrade, which I don't think they've ever discounted.)

Faith in the New Testament by Adolf Schlatter: English and German(2 vols.)

A number of German language resources that are in => Stuttgart Electronic Study Bible (SESB), Version 3.0 (52 vols.)

Community Pricing has a resource, but doubt if German edition is included (preview pages are all English) => New Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge (13 vols.)

Many thanks for your help. Especially for the link to the products and the example how to make a querry among the products. I am overwhelmed by the huge selection of the resources and on the other hand by the few resources in German language. As for the synopsis of the 4 Gospels, I understand now, that there is no need for such books in Logos4, because ( as Mick explained) that there is an internal table in Logos4, that tracks the pericopes the respective authors deemed to be parallel. Then those pericopes should be visible in 4 different tiles in Logos4.

I also thought, that the cost for buying resources seperately might become more expenmsive, than buying a package. On the other hand my PC might slow down, when I buy another package. Right now I have the 60 resources, which came with SESB v3.

Ich bedauere auch, dass es so wenig deutsche resources gibt. Aber das kann sich ja noch ändern.

In den SESB resources sind auch einige von den Niederlanden, die ich wohl auf keinen Fall brauche. Ist es möglich und sinnvoll diese zu löschen ? Wegen der anderen Forumsteilnehmer ist es sicher besser nur in Englisch zu schreiben. Das will ich das nächste Mal wieder tun.

Unless you have a very ancient machine, struggling to run Win XP, you won't even notice a couple of resources. I run L4 on a Acer Extensa with just a single-core Celeron processor - I noticed a marked slowdown when I took advantage of a larger part of the free Perseus resources and a Library Builder, moving me to well over 2000 resources back then (now with Catholic Scholars >3.300). I still can do with it, performancewise.

You ask about resources you don't need: actaually you can't delete them, but you "hide" them - drag from the Library window to the "Hidden Books"-section of the System Settings. After the next L4 restart, they will be deleted from your harddrive and no longer in the library, but you may unhide them later. I hid all the Danish, Norwegian, French... stuff from SESB.

Note that Hiding is on a resource by resource basis - selecting some will increase it to 10 per move. But the forum is full of people that ordered Perseus because it is free and now regret e.g. having appr. 250 resources in Latin (the explanations to "Ab urbe condita" are in German, btw.). You either hide them in a longish session or leave them in the library - or return the package. Thus be careful if you don't want them: I took the classics but left the Richmond daily newspaper and the American War memories package.

I can understand some of other’s dilemma of the Perseus Collections. Even know of some who do not post that removed some from the library. I, as you, was selective in that mega-freebie...I think some got the whole package just to say they have the whole package….
