How do you delete a custom guide?

When I open the custom guide I want to delete, I see a "Delete This Guide" menu item under the guide icon in the upper left.  However, if the guide is not populated, the menu item is greyed out.  If it is populated, the menu item is available, but nothing happens when I press it.  

So, how do I delete a custom guide?

In Guides menu, can right click on custom guide, then click "Delete" in pop-up:
