Is there an option to add a general note not to a specific verse but maybe a chapter or just the book in general?
Hi Troy
Yes, there are a couple of approach to this depending on how you want to link your notes to the Bible passages. But they might not give you exactly what you are looking for.
Do either of these help?
If not, can you provide a little more context on what you are hoping to achieve?
Thanks, Graham
Yes, it is really simple, two clicks maybe.
You have a note for a specific verse already made[or group of note for a specific passage], if so let me know what verse….I’ll show ya….
Easy way:
In the first case, the note reference will only say Gen 1:1, and hovering over it will only show that one verse. In the latter case, the note reference will be the whole range that you selected, and the popup will show as much of it as there is room for.
Troy.
Check back later. I will make some dummy notes for Ge chapter 1 and show in a video how to consolidate those notes into one note file and how to make it for the book/chapter. dealing w/a sick kiddo at the moment......
A couple things:
-you can create the general note pretty simple.
-Once you consolidate all note for the chapter into one file, the other notes can be deleted but once you delete them they are gone, you will note this in the video – there is no need for ‘two’ note file. BUT ONCE YOU DELETE THEM THEY ARE GONE!!!!
At the end of the second video it appears that the note file did not generate to another version, it is because I made the vid’s from a NON-UPDATED version of L4[needs a couple of updates]. But I think that they changed that…I think…can’t remember…But anywho…

Hope this helps....
Now I'm going to do something I have probably never done before on these forums, but since the original poster was a newbie with only 3 posts I'm going to do it anyway. Newbies deserve more consideration than experienced users who should know better.
I'm sorry to say that I do not recommend R4m's videos. They will only confuse you.
(I'm sorry R4m, and I may be wrong, but my impression from those videos is that you don't really understand how notes work at all, and then you shouldn't try to guide others. Least of all newbies.)
FGH,
Yup you are right, I am just as ignorant as you when it comes to notes. Who knows maybe someone who has greater ability than both of us will jump in and correct us both…. I really prefer having a lot and I mean a lot of note related icons all through the bible I am reading. After all, most of my notes date back to L2…..so that would mean that I got more notes than bible……hmmm I have been doing it wrong all these years. Sorry my nomenclature was off – did not mean to offend you.
Let’s see your videos…..
[[[edit: I admit that some things have changed, granted......http://wiki.logos.com/Notes ]]
I really prefer having a lot and I mean a lot of note related icons all through the bible I am reading.
So do I, but I have them all gathered in a few note files, not in one file for each note. If that's how you do it, I'm afraid I don't understand the benefit of that approach. You do know that you can add a lot of notes -- with icons -- to each note file, don't you?
I'm sorry you were so offended, but if I have to choose between seeing a newbie learning things wrong, getting a lot of extra work, and perhaps losing work already done, or stepping on the toes of an experienced user, then I'm afraid I choose the latter. I'm here to report bugs, make suggestions, help those who need it, and occasionally ask for help myself, not to please you or anyone else.
I am not offended, not in the slightest.
If you search for notes, there is still a big ta-do over them....eventually L4 will come up with a mutually agreed upon method that makes all happy. right now mine works for me....I can remove the videos if you find them so offensive? remember I did say for demonstration purposes only....
Start w/note 1 video of the wiki page i linked....I did not do it his way, so what?
Let's see yours....
I am just as ignorant as you
Is it time to request Ms. Manner's in Logos format?
I am just as ignorant as you Is it time to request Ms. Manner's in Logos format?
Thanks MJ
Let’s consider some statements:
-a note is still a file, rather we choose to say ‘note’ or ‘note file’ the point is the same. I used both, I guess that was not understood.
-just because ones method is different that another’s does not mean one is wrong and the other right (cf: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/45969.aspx [wyn] and the referral to another by ward at the end)
-there are some who do use note[I.E> ‘note file’] separately [cf: http://wiki.logos.com/Notes watch the videos] you will notice that he creates multiple({[seperate]}) notes for the same text.
-drag-drop is as old as Microsoft...
So, I guess ignorance is a common amongst us many, well I can admit that I am at times, some may see otherwise. So mannerism towards myself does carry over….
But thanks for the comment. [this is getting blown out of proportion...../?]
The only way to add a note to a chapter or a book is to add it to the range of verses within that chapter or book. This has the potential downside of making that note in essence tied to every single verse within that chapter or book.
An alternative method is that you would tie the note to the chapter number, pericope heading, or book title. The downside of this is that your note would in essence be tied to a text selection (not a verse selection) and therefore only be visible within the translation made the markup in. This is my method of doing what you asked. I just make it in my main translation
Everyone I really appreciate the help and the input. I use the example in the video by using the heading. The KJV version doesn't have headings like the ESV. I will use the ESV to add the note in the heading but change the color and the symbol so I will know if it is a book, chapter or verse note. But again thanks everyone for your help and input.
