Resource missing from library... but the file is in the Resources folder. Any ideas?

I was reading from Strong's Systematic Theology on my Kindle Fire the other day and later wanted to bring it up on my computer, but I was shocked to discover that it wasn't in my library. I looked at the product page and confirmed that I own a license for it and that it is available in Logos for Windows: http://www.logos.com/product/7840/systematic-theology

Even stranger, I started up Logos on my laptop and searched for the book there... sure enough, it was available in the library on my laptop. I searched the forums and the wiki site and tried all of the suggestions I could find, including update resources, scan, scan (in offline mode), and rebuild index. None of these commands fixed my problem. I also looked in my Resources folder and found a file called STRONGST.logos4, which I assume is the resource file for Strong's Systematic Theology. Does anyone know how I can force Logos to recognize this resource?

Both my laptop and my desktop are x64 Windows machines. The laptop is running Windows 7 and the desktop is running Vista. As a side note, even though my laptop has access to this resource and my desktop doesn't, there are 2 fewer resources available on my laptop than on my desktop. I'm still not sure which books I'm missing on each machine, but this seems to point to a bug in the Logos application.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Note: directly placing files into resources folder does not work for Logos 4 (does not update corresponding Library indexing).

That is the correct resource

You have to use the resources on the laptop and scan them from the desktop where they are missing e.g. copy STRONGST.logos4 to a removable device on the laptop then use the scan command on the desktop ---> scan E:\ (where E:\ is the removable drive). If this does not fix the situation then the licence on the desktop is suspect and you should contact Logos about it.

For some reason the resource file is recognized on my laptop, but not on my desktop. The file size and timestamp are the same on both, so it doesn't appear that the file on my desktop is corrupt.

Thanks for the suggestion of scanning the resource from a removable drive. I'll try that this afternoon. If it doesn't work, I'll give Logos Customer Support a call. I really appreciate the help.

In that case I find it hard to believe that scanning it from a removable drive would make any difference, but I guess you can always try. Be aware that the Scan command requires a restart.

Another thing you could try would be:

On the computer where the resource shows up in the Library: drag it to Hidden Resources.
Restart Logos, first on that computer and then on the other.
Go back to Hidden Resources, and unhide the resource again.
Again restart Logos first on that computer, then on the other.

This should force a redownload on both computers, which will hopefully sort out whatever went wrong during the first download.

(If you haven't hidden books before, you might want to look at Hiding Books first.)

(I'm on Mac, but I'm fairly sure this procedure is identical on Windows -- and I'm confident that someone will quickly correct me if I'm wrong. [:)])

Actually -- coming to think of it -- since you're obviously quite capable of finding the actual file, the faster way of doing the same thing would be to simply delete or relocate the file and then restart, which should also force a redownload. Given that I'm a 100% Mac person, I'd prefer if you waited for a go ahead from Windows person before you try that, though.

(You must, of course, have Use Internet and Automatically Download Updates set to Yes while doing either of these.)

Suggest contacting Logos Tech Support => http://www.logos.com/about/contact with your permission, can remotely share laptop to investigate.

Diagnostic logs on laptop computer may be helpful => http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging (wondering if something is corrupt, but not crashing).

I first tried scanning from an external device as Dave suggested. Unfortunately, the resource wasn't added after restarting Logos.

Next I tried your suggestion of using the Hidden Resources feature to force a redownload. This sounded really promising, but it also didn't work. After removing Systematic Theology from the Hidden Resources, the book was restored on my laptop but not on my desktop.

Finally, I tried deleting the STRONGST.logos4 file on the desktop and running the Update Resources command. The file was not redownloaded.

I'll try to get in touch with Logos Tech Support and see if they can give me an answer. Thanks again for the assistance. I really appreciate it.

I just wanted to let you all know that Logos Tech Support was able to fix this problem for me yesterday. The Logos tech deleted a number of files and folders in the Logos directory, which prompted Logos to redownload my resources. It took several hours to complete, but after it finished, I was finally able to access Strong's Systematic Theology!
