1. One the one hand, I'm disappointed to see that this is an annual collection of journal articles, chosen and edited by Scott Hahn, rather than his 2005 book by the same title (Letter and Spirit: From Written Text to Living Word in the Liturgy), which I found to be deep and fascinating reading. At the time I bought and read it I was exploring (and later entered) the Eastern Orthodox Church, so my positive views of Hahn's book about the integration of Scripture and Liturgy and the Church may have been influenced by that. But from what I recall (I think I have lost or misplaced my copy
), it was (and is) a great book - not "punnish" or light fare like his earlier books, but for the serious reader and even the scholar.
2. On the other hand, if these journal collections are anything like Hahn's book, they are probably well worth getting, whether or not you are Catholic.
So the question for me (and possibly you, too) becomes: Do I jump on a 40% discount now, or hold off and wait or hope for a future sale at close to this price?
(FWIW, I am no longer in or interested in being in the Orthodox Church, but I am still interested in these subjects, and as I said, if they are anything like Hahn's book, they are probably very fruitful reading for me and Christians of all denominations.)
And... they'll be readable on one's mobile phone or device.
