Note fonts

After spending considerable time attempting to reproduce a public domain German work into several note files I am hopping mad. There is the standard problem of the default plain jane Arial 10 pt font which is totally unacceptable for any purpose to which I've almost become resigned to having to change immediately. I can read Arial Unicode MS 10 pt or Times New Roman 10 pt (though I prefer Bookman Old Style to TNR) so it isn't the font size that is the problem.

Let's get to the nitty-gritty. In the body of the text I am using Bookman Old Style 12 pt. In the footnotes I am using Bookman Old Style 10 pt. For Hebrew I am using SBL Hebrew 1 font larger than the surrounding text. For Greek I am using KadmosU of the same size as the surrounding text. Additionally, I am inserting a Latin alpha character in 8 pt after any Hebrew and formatting it white so it won't appear since numbers will change places with the Hebrew if I don't do this (I understand there is a direction-changing character which can be inserted, but I don't know it nor how to insert it) . This white-formatted letter changes to black becoming visible . In working on one rather long footnote I have found my KadmosU and SBL Hebrew characters changing to BOS. Also, the font size in the notes is changing from 10 pt to 12 pt. I have changed some of these 4 or 5 times. It WILL be as I want it before I finish. I don't appreciate having to fight the program. Add to this the fact that I'm not certain that when I close the page then re-open that it will not have changed.

This is totally unacceptable.

The note system in Logos is generally unacceptable and in my experience not (very) usable. I find the note-taking system/comment-system in Adobe Reader much more profitable. Evernote is also very good.

I hope with v.4 that Logos is going in another direction entirely, because currently the notesystem they are using for Libronix is awful.

The note system in Logos isn't all that bad. If the fonts were stable, i.e. they stayed the way you set them, and if there were better linking within the notes themselves (facilitating footnoting), they wouldn't be bad at all. Also, it is desirable to have a better search capability. It is possible to search a file, but that is only for the currently open file. I want to be able to search all of my note files to find notes I previously wrote on a subject without needing to go through each one individually. Prior to v.3 it was possible to use Windows Explorer to do this, but v.3 put the kibosh on that. It would also be desirable to have finer granularity in linking to resources, but that is going to require reworking some of the resources. I could use MS Word if I were simply interested in having my notes look good, but I'm not simply interested in pretty notes. I'm interested in the integration with my Logos resources which is either not possible at all or only possible to a limited extent outside Logos. To accomplish some formatting I do it in Word then copy it into Notes. This is how I can enter subscript or superscript and small caps. So long as I can copy formatting into Notes, I'm not concerned with having Logos produce Notes which are a full-fledged word processor.
