External Drive

Is it possible to download Logos 4 onto an external drive or does it have to be on the C drive? I have a small windows tablet but I don't think it would have enough space available for my Logos library. I think using an external drive would be a good option if it was available.

It can be on any drive, I designated drive L: as a USB stick (64GB) for use with my 1st generation netbook as it came with only a tiny hard drive and was well close to capacity before Logos 4 was available. Just make sure your external drive is formatted NTFS else you will not be able to index a large library.....

Logos 4 Windows forum has thread => It's become so sluggish! (personally custom installed Logos 4 to my F: drive).

I have a small windows tablet but I don't think it would have enough space available for my Logos library.

Logos Support has Technical FAQ page => http://www.logos.com/support/techfaq that includes resource sizes for base packages. Indexing uses about 50 % more disk space plus needs enough space to write a new copy of Library index while merging postings.

Hi Michael,

Yes it is possible. I have been using Logos 4 on an external drive for almost two years. The only problem I have ever had is when a beta was released that crashed my system. So far it was a one time rare event. So, by all means put it on an external drive. You will need to remove Logos from your system and reinstall it (it will be considered an initial install and take many hours). Once the install menu loads just do a custom install and tell Logos where you want to install it. I hope this helps.

If you have a small base package and intend to not add too many books over the next few years then 32GB should be fine.....

Otherwise ensure you have at least 64GB........ your collection might grow......

Michael I currently have 4,660 resources in my library. This grows every month, but as of today it is 21.5 GB on my external drive. Once this library grows to use up all the space on my external drive, I have another external drive with a ton more space that I will install it to. I hope this helps.

Dear all,

I recently purchased a new computer with native partition of "C" and "D". Whilst I'm installing Logos4 and downloading all the books, I find that they all reside in the "C" drive. Unfortunately the size of the drive is a bit tight and I like to "move" the programs and the data to "D" drive. The question is that can I just simply cut and paste the content found in the file manager and move them to "D" or I need to do something else to achieve the move. And if so what would be the procedure to follow.

The concern is that I have around 20G data to download and index. Thus the worse thing I like to avoid is to repeat the download and indexing in order to achieve the move.

The procedure is similar:

Rename your \Logos4 folder on your C: drive.

Uninstall Logos 4.

Use Method 2 to custom install Logos 4 to your drive, including copying folders from your renamed folder on C: drive to your drive.

After Logos 4 is working on your drive, then could delete the renamed folder on your C: drive.
