frustrated beyond words Hate L4 - Love L3

Loyal user since about '98. Purchased L4 the minute it came out and left it in the drawer for about a year until I thought all the bugs were worked out. Since I installed it I hate it. I hate almost everything about it,but I am especially frustrated with this:
Every time I open L4 it indexes. EVERY TIME.... and it indexes forEVER!!! In addiion, about once a month or so I open it and it tells me it's going to install new stuff. Endless waiting ensues and I can't used my computer because it slows it down so badly.
If I really loved the way it works I might be prepared to accept this but it is inferior in every way to L3.
If someone could help me with this indexing and slow downs I would be greatly appreciative and mour new best friend AND put you on my Christmas card list :-)

You need to make sure you let indexing finish before shutting your computer down, otherwise it will start over again. The little blue Logos icon in the Windows tray will give you indexing status. It goes away when indexing is done.
It's possible you have a rogue resource that is causing the indexer to fail, but you'd need to turn on logging and post your indexer logs here to have that problem diagnosed. See http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging
Depending on how old you computer is and on how big your library is, it may take a long time to complete the first indexing. However, you shouldn't need to do a full index from scratch unless you reinstall. New and updated resources only require an incremental index. If I need to rebuild the index from scratch, I generally let mine index while I sleep.
What's your computer's technical specifications?

Yes, you will get program updates and resource updates. They should download in the background.
- Program updates shouldn't take long to download, and generally don't cause any reindexing to occur (unless you are way behind in getting updates, then you might get a change to the indexing code, but that has changed since last year, I don't believe).
- Resource updates cause indexing to occur after download, but it should be a very short indexing update, assuming your indexes were already up to date before you received the resource update.
If you want to control when you receive updates, you have options in the Program Settings window. You can turn off all updates by setting Automatically Download Updates to No. Alternatively, if you want to download stuff between certain hours, you have that option too.

Wonder if Indexer is crashing, which could cause indexing to happen every time Logos 4 opens since Indexing is not completing.
Would like to look at diagnostic logs; wiki has => Diagnostic Logging
Note: using ctrl key for one session only enables logging for interactive use, but does not enable logging of indexer.
Wonder about enabling diagnostic logging, then restart Windows. If blue Logos icon appears in notification area then please wait for icon to disappear. Optionally can hover mouse over icon for indexing progress. After blue icon disappears, please compress Logos4Indexer.log file and attach to forum reply.
Keep Smiling [:)]
