Download crashing again

I am sorry ... this is another of those 'here we go again' issues ...
L4Mac has reported several updates ready for down load ... about 700+ Mb. I click on the download message and download starts (the icon in the menu bar) ... the process is SLOW .
Then the icon disappears ... no notice ... clearly not finished ... just gone!
I restart L4Mac and the download restarts as if nothing crashed. A couple of minutes later, gone again ... and again ... and again ... each time it is reporting that there are 416Mb waiting to download.
I have dug around the download manager db and there is just one job ... which just happens to be 416Mb long, together with its URL. OK. Lets try a direct download and see if I can 'scan' it into Logos.
Chrome starts to download it OK at a rate of about 600 KB/s, and then the data stops arriving the data transfer rate starts plummeting, and the predicted time of arrival goes from 15 minutes to 7 days!
Pause then resume has no effect (!).
Cancel and retry seems to be the only answer. So here we go ...
So far the 'connection' has been lost at 59.7Mb, 96.6 Mb, 21 MB, 7Mb, 135Mb, 12.5Mb, 117Mb ... so what gives?
- Why does there seem to be no resume facility?
- Why does L4Mac not deal with this correctly?, instead it just crashes the downloader.
- How can I download larger resources where the probability of an un-handled interruption seems to be quite large?
The URL of the resource that I am after is http://resources.assets.logos.com/lls_zphatlasbblrev/2012-05-10T22_59_02Z/ZPHATLASBBLREV.logos4
BTW. in the 10 minutes taken to put this together it has failed twice more, at different points. I am currently looking at a download speed of 120 b/s (yes ... BYTES!) which should complete in 42 days and counting!

Martin - I am not claiming to have an answer, but I have never experienced this before. Is it possible that your ISP is throttling your internet?

No ... I have unlimited download ... usually about 6Mb/s ... sitting in East London ... and with no issues with any other website, with the exception of http://christianaudio.com/. They use the Amazon S3 service and do not host their own data. I know this from the URLs of the audio books once through the checkout phase.
I have just tried one of my Synology servers ... it being non-mac etc. and it reports that the connection 'timed out' ... a little more information ... and the synology was able to 'resume' where Chrome was not ... so I am looking to that at the moment ... and in this instance ...

I believe this is true of Logos as well.
