Another volume for my "Church History (Reformation)" collection. Thanks, Logos.
Started reading a little of this book on page 5 it references an obscure book called the Domesday Book I had no idea what it was. Its a book held in the British National Archives and you can find out about it at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/domesday/ if you were interested in what it was.
Domesday Book
Is that old English for Doomsday?
Kind of, it's was a record of the value of land under the authority William the Conqurer. So it was a "judgment day" when they had their land valued. It was used in reference to an ancestor of Thomas Cranmer being recorded in it.
Thanks, Francis, for pointing out the freebee!
It was written in order for he king to know what he could tax, for that reason it was not entirely welcome to those whose Property was recorded, it's name was only applied later and derived from he finality of the judgement contained therein much like the last judgement recorded in Revelation, or the doomsday.
It is anything but obscure, but that is perhaps because I am English.
Another free book! Thanks Logos [:)]
I can see why it's not obscure in England after reading about...but when I first I had to Google it.
Thank you Logos , God bless you.
If it's free, it's for me!
