Why is my mac library 700 resources smaller than my library in windows?

I am making the switch to mac, and it appears to be going well so far. Kudos to LBS for trying to play nice on both platforms.

I noticed this morning that the number of resources in my mac library is 3455, which is over 700 fewer than in my windows version. Am I missing resources? Are they simply counted differently in the mac platform?

Do you have any personal books in the Windows version? They do not synch.

Are you able to discern which resources are missing?

If you have resources that are no longer on the logos server, like Jerome Biblical Commentary, the Daily Study Bible series, and I assume there are others. They may exist on your windows machine in the resource folder but unless they are manual transferred, your mac has no way of getting them. I didn't think there would be that many orphaned resources but perhaps there is. One other thing to possible do is type in the upper bar Update Resources which should make sure all owned resources on the Logos servers are installed. I hope this can help a bit.

PS: If you have a mobile device android or iOS you will notice more items on them than are possibly in your library because of free items Logos allows you to access, one of the most noticeable ones might be the russian translation, which is on your mobile device but most likely isn't in your regular library, unless you read russian i mean.

Curious if Logos 4 Mac is done downloading ? Blue Indexer icon in menu bar ? If no icon, one option is restarting Logos 4 Mac to see if indexer has more to download (have experienced Logos 4 Mac needing multiple restarts to download all resources).

If download done, wonder about comparing library resource counts for various editions:

edition:l

edition:u

Note: edition:e is Vyrso eBooks, edition:u is User (personal books), and edition:l is Logos, which have 24 types. If Logos edition count is different, could add type: filter to compare subsets of Logos Library by type.

Wiki Quick Installation onto Multiple Macs has => Copy Logos 4 Resources to Mac OS X since one option is copying resources from Windows so use scan command (with path to resources) in Logos 4 Mac, then restart Logos 4 Mac. If diagnostic logging is enabled, could open Indexer.log to see list of discovered resources, followed by indexing.

If diagnostic logging is enabled when scan command is entered, Logos4.log file should have a couple lines showing command: AddScanPath|ScanPath=<path to resources folder> Wiki => Copy Logos 4 Resources to Mac OS X has some scan command examples.

For personal books, one option is using scan command for a folder that has your *.lbspbb files.

Although these resources can no longer be purchased from Logos, they remain on the servers for those who had a valid license prior to removal from sale. Just checked, and the original Daily Study Bible series is present on all my installations (2 good guys and 1 Windows [8-|]). Logos policy is that you do not lose those resources you purchase.

Most of the time yes, but when I finally found a Catholic Library so I could have the Jerome Biblical Commentary it was not on the Logos servers and a Logos employee was kind enough to make it avail be for me to download from his server. I am not surprised that the DSB is there since it just became available for mobile download in the past 3 months. Yes Logos policy is good but if they lose the right to have it on the server it is possible that it may not be available online. Perhaps JBC is the only one like that I just assumed there must be more than one such file.

I purchased the original version the week before Logos lost the right to sell. The one available for mobile is probably the revised version—a bit more politically correct according to rumors.

Don't know about Jerome Commentary.

Yes the New Daily Study Bible is on mobile devices and has been since day one. but the ones that had been removed from sale years back. Daily Study Bible of the Old Testament and the 1975 Revised Barclay's Daily Study Bible are both now available for mobile devices. Which makes me very happy, as i was sorely missing the OT series, i had dove in for the NDSB, which is nice not because of the softening of WB partially masculine language, but because more quotes are arbitrated rather that just having to guess where they quotes are from..

I'd look at these suggestions first.

Otherwise, if you determine that you're missing books that should appear try the following steps:

Open Logos 4.
Locate the “Command” field at the top of the main window.
Enter the command: Update Resources
1. An indicator will appear that says “Checking for updates..”
  Please wait for this indicator to disappear; it may take several minutes.
2. If missing resources are detected, they will be downloaded automatically.
  To access them, you will need to restart Logos 4 when the download is complete.

This idea would take a bit more work to set up than KS4J's steps, but it should give you a definitive list of the resources not appearing in your Mac library:

Add a tag to all your Mac books (which you can do by selecting all your books in the library panel on your Mac and adding a tag in the info pane.)

Once the tags have synced over to your Windows machine, make a collection for all the books with that tag.

Then, make a collection of your whole library MINUS the collection of the Mac-tagged books.

Great idea!

If you skip the collections and instead type in the Windows Library box rating:>=0 -mytag:whatevertagyouusedonthemac it's a very fast method (just make sure both machines have synced in between).

Except...

a) 4.5b for Mac has a bug that may make tagging impossible...

b) unless you don't have any other tags (or are willing to sacrifice those), the only way to get rid of that tag again is to delete it resource after resource after resource after resource...

(If you have tags but not ratings you could do a similar, and even faster, thing with ratings instead -- once you're on 4.5c, that is...)
