Getting a few pages from a book

I am writing a research paper on the Sermon on the Mount.

Logos has the book I would like to reference but it is one of the more expensive books and right now I only need a few pages.

Allison and Davies Commentary on Matthew ICC Series

I am hoping someone might be able copy the pages and send them to me or add them as a reply.

The critical pages are pages 485-86 with the refernces and the bonus would be pages 481-503.

Considering the illegality of this request (probably violates both our EULA and copyright law), I wouldn't hold my breath.

Maybe you could borrow this book from a library?

Apologies: personally not have => International Critical Commentaries: New Testament but do have => Critical and Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament (21 vols.) that was a Community Pricing item that closed on 9/11/11 then shipped on 1/13/12.

Distributing two pages from a book isn't inherently breaking copyright law or the EULA. It depends on the context, and fair use may prevail. Also consider the fact that Logos has an export feature that lets you copy snippets to dozens of pages without issue. It seems unlikely that the exporting feature was meant solely for the user, as you already have the material you want to export (in many attractive and useful formats).

That said, it's probably not kosher to publish the two pages on a public forum.

Google Books seems to have a preview of the book, and I was able to see at least page 485, but it hid page 486.

If you load the book in different browsers, you may get different subsets of pages hidden and showing, and see most or all of the pages you're interested in. It depends on the book, however, and my mileage of this technique has varied.

Most of these pages are available on the Google Books site.

I just noticed William's reply just above mine -- that's interesting, I was able to see all of 485-86 and most of the pages through 503--there were probably 4 or 5 that it wouldn't show. There is a page limit for what you can view, so if you go here, I'd go right to the page you need from the table of contents tool.

The share feature that Logos is trying to develop for the mobile would even allow limited sharing of pages.

I was able to find a previous version of the book by the same authors on Google books that did allow the preview of the critical pages I was looking for on the topic.

Davies and Allison summarize the nine views that interpretors have had to the question of how the fulfill and abolish are contrasted in Matt 5:17-20.

It has a lot to do with how Jesus related His public preaching to the Law of Moses.

I'm really glad you found what you were looking for.

Makes me think that having a digital loaning/library system would be a nice addition to logos. They would probably worry airabout cannibalizing sales, but clearly you weren't going to buy this book for a couple of pages...
