split screen on my iphone 4s

i accidentally come up with a split screen on my i phone and for the sake of me i cant figure out how i done it. can some tell me how to do it again? also is it useful or practical for the iPhone with such a  small screen?

There is a "semi circle" slider. If the split screen is closed, tapping it will give you 2 equal panels. Otherwise you can slide the button. The screen shot below is from the iPad, but it works the same on the iPhone.

also is it useful or practical for the iPhone with such a  small screen?

I don't think so, but others do. The faithlife app comes without the option of moving to a single panel (its always split screen), so someone at Logos thinks there is benefit to it.
