Feasibility Study to Make Highlighting / Notes Even Worse

I'm sorry folks. Best to just hit the 'back' button and ignore this post.

I spend 99% of my reading / highlighting / note taking NOT on Logos4. I'd sort of watched the various betas on the conversion of highlighting to notes, but I'd never really tried it out.

Today I was messing around with the tread-marks versus history-clearing to see if there was ANY way to use them except on new books. Best I can figure there's some sort of relationship but who knows how it works.

Then I thought to maybe use a single highight to keep a visual place (bookmarks can't be seen; ditto favorites). I did the right-click thing.

Whoa, was I surprised. Stick with the Highlighter panel.

The back button? Nope - this is perhaps the first time you have written a post which, after reading, I haven't the slightest idea what you are talking about. What was the source of your surprise? Especially, what was your surprise that you consider to be "better" in the Highlighter panel?

Well, actually I deleted most of the post, whining about trying to use the notes/highlighting. I was not a happy camper. Eventually I thought, well, just use the highlighter panel and avoid the right-click menu.

That's when I saw Logos4 stalling dramatically (I've a pretty decent PC; new) trying to manage just a few highlights.

I deleted the 'notes' file and finished up. Stick with Libronix (I know you like Logos4, so no offense). But it does appear each poor design decision demands another.

I do defend Logos 4 because some features I need work much better in Logos 4. But I won't defend Logos' development cycle and quality control.

Stick with Libronix (I know you like Logos4, so no offense).

I still think Libronix is a fine program, And Logos 4 is too. I do not have a major gripe with "Notes and Highlighting" because my primary use of both of these products is Bible study.

I also do not complain because OneNote is lousy at searching the Bible or performing Word Studies. [:D]

You have at least 15 reasons you like Libronix 3 over Logos 4. That is ok by me. But really, touting Libronix note-taking over Logos 4 note-taking is not your strongest argument. I bet Bob Pritchett gets the Notes/Highlights finessed before Microsoft gets a Bible in OneNote.

I do have a major gripe with Notes precisely because my primary use of Logos is Bible study -- or it would be if all my time didn't disappear on fighting with and reporting bugs and issues. [:'(]

Hi Folks,

I for one prefer L4 to Libronix. I use it far more than I ever used the latter and have sunk thousands of $$ into what has been for the most part a enjoyable and fruitful program. However, there is one feature that never fails to get my hackles up. And that is Notes [8o|]. Now it's not so much Notes that provokes my ire as it is the fric-a-frac'n Files feature. It fails on a number of levels, while it's supporting features are in many ways truly inspired.

Files should be an organizing, user friendly feature and it simply is not. It cannot be adequately manipulated. Lacks a copy feature would allow it to function more productively with a feature I adore Favorites. Take this example. Say I'm reading a "monograph" and I create a note file for it. Now let's say I'm finished with this "monograph" and want to move my notes on this resource to Favorites in its very own alphabetically arranged destination. Well I can do that. But, say I would like to streamline my File feature by deleting this entry. AS you all probably know this is not possible as this will DELETE all of your hard work from Favorites.

I have said this before so I won't belabor the point. Files should complement the features in Favorites and you should be able to rearrange the order of your files put them in folders and so on. The brilliance of Cited by Collections etc. should be carried through to Files. Bob if you want to FIRE someone the developer whose handiwork is File is he/she (just poking). Please, I can't tell you how frustrated I am with this state of affairs.

Lastly or should it have been first DMB, I feel you brother. I didn't see your name in this thread so you may have missed it. steve clark did some helpful analysis of this note-taking highlight issue. From everything I've gathered over my time here, the worst design decisions usually originate with Bob himself. The developers just have to implement them. Can't be fun having to code something you know is flawed and then get the blame for it.

Thanks for the insightful comment. I obviously am foreign to the culture that has on the one hand delivered such a generally superior program, while at the same time given us such a bumbling component like File. How do we effectively impress Bob to take a second look?
