Dear Mr. von Soden,
I'm sorry, that despite all the top scholarly work you've done on your Greek New Testament...all of the manuscripts you've collated, in 2012 only the elect will be willing to pay for your labors. R.I.P. brother.
Cry a tear or press a button.
Sincerely,
The Postmodern Elect
Come on guys, give him some love! This is the last time I will urge it. [:)]
BTW Thanks NB Mick and Hapax Legomena!
Disclaimer to all the supposed non-elect: Be assured that my tongue is planted firmly in my cheek.

I'm somewhat surprised such a work of major importance is receiving so little attention, but with the low price, it will probably need a lot of bids. I'm in at $14 and have been for a while now.

OK, I'm in --$8 for the one volume GNT with apparatus... the apparatus is worth $8 to me... the 3 volumes of explanation in German? Not so much... ;-)
Grace & Peace,

Nein, nein! Herr van Soden at the bottom. Oh, for shame!
German will make you more efficient, my friend. Anyway, you can hide the non-apparatical volumes.

Of course it is individual choice. Mainly my goal is to bring it to more people's attention, which is why I am trying to use hyperbole et al methods. [:)] Hope no one is offended by my persistance.

Well, it's about time for another soda, and reminder about Von Soden. There was a more recent thread in 2016 but this thread has a more jazzy title!
If you're wondering, well, gee, the soda sure hits the spot ... why give it up for 'Von Soden'??
First, his was a rather extensive critical edition ... the CP volume includes the apparatus. We do have Tischendorf's and Tregelles, but missing Von Soden.
Secondly, Von Soden was known for his 'early' manuscript classification system, in the face of thousands of manuscripts.
And for a good discussion of that, if you already have the book in Logos:
The Profile Method For Classifying And Evaluating Manuscript Evidence
So, head for the frig, get out the soda, and hit the bid button (you won't be charged for a few years yet).
As a reward, a tasty morsel from the Profile resource above:
"Few scholarly enterprises have suffered a more curious fate than that of Hermann Freiherr von Soden. On the one hand, criticism could hardly have been more unanimous, more vociferous, and more devastating. Nonetheless, almost all of von Soden’s critics have made extensive use of his work, and that in a surprisingly uncritical fashion. The reasons for this ironical fact readily suggest themselves."
