Library Update Practices

I have the 10 volume version of the Pillar Commentary Series that came with the Platinum Library (JG). I am tempted to buy the four volume upgrade (and pre-order the forthcoming Romans volume as well). However when Logos releases the next Library Update or version 5 I want to know if they will include those volumes in the library.

Briefly put, I don't want to buy the modules twice (once in the upgrade and then again in the update). Any recommendations on this?

Sorry Jeremy, I doubt even Logos knows the answer to that question right now. Publishers may give permission to include it in the next upgrade or they may pull it altogether. Either way its a risk.

When Logos brought out the upgrade packages of Logos 4, they offered customized pricing for customers, taking into account volumes that they had purchased already. I would guess that the "credit" may be less than the full price that you paid, but you are not paying full price twice.

No one knows when L5 will be released and what the pricing/upgrade structure will be.

There is usually an upgrade price because additional volumes of sets have been added as well as other base titles.

I moved up from Gold to Platinum when L4 was introduced. I have purchased all of the additional new Pillar titles as they have been released, because I wanted to have them in my library now.

A Logos mgr. told me a little over a year ago that it is their practice to include new volumes of a set for a small price. He wouldn't guarantee that was a certainty for the next release, however, it was a recommended purchasing strategy if you can wait for the resources. The problem is that the Pillars are so good it is hard to wait . . .

If I were you and had the money I'd buy the other volumes upgrade now. Since you never know when a commentary set or other books can be removed due to the publisher asking for them to be removed from a package or Logos all together (like that one time when the old Daily Bible Studies by William Barclay were pulled from Logos all together). I have them all, so I'm not worried about that.

I'd gladly take any and all donations (I'm a pastor) to help build my library... the book budget doesn't allow for me to spring for them now, I was just trying to think ahead.
