Bible search works on laptop, not on desktop

Hi all,

I've been trying to use my new software this evening for study and found something strange - when using it earlier on my laptop the search feature worked fine. But on my desktop I searched NASB95 for the word "overseer" and it came back giving me "0 results in 0 searches (0.80 sec)". I've tried a few obvious words but it doesn't find any of them. Seems strange that both PC's are synced but this is happening on only one of them.

Tried to include a zipped log file but must be messing up somehow (see at bottom, but maybe it isn't needed). Anyone hear of this happening elsewhere? Thanks so much - I'm learning a TON about this software through all of you and am grateful!

Do a Basic Bible search for God. Do you see any message in the Results panel?

Do you see a "supplemental" index in \Logos4\Data\{random}\LibraryIndex?

Hi Dave,

I did a "Basic" search of "God" in the entire library and came up with a lot of results but none in any bibles. Also did a "Bible" search of "God" in NASB95 and it returned a number of results like I would expect it to. So then I did a "Bible" search of "elders" in NASB95 and zero results again (when doing a speed search in Ver 3 it returns 206 hits).

I must have not downloaded properly on this desktop PC because I can't even find the folder \Logos4\Data etc, yet the Library shows up so it must be somewhere. All that comes up in a search for "Logos" in files and folders are 2 shortcuts and 4 locations of log or zipped log files in "My Documents and Settings". Do you think maybe I should wipe the program and try downloading/indexing on this one again?

Sure appreciate your help - I have a feeling that I will be experiencing a "Duh" moment on this one...

If you can see the same number of resources in both systems then you may be able to avoid another download (or an alternative procedure of scanning the resources from your good system). Let's try a re-index of the entire library. First close L4.

You still need to find this folder \Logos4\Data\{random}\LibraryIndex! Search C: drive on LibraryIndex and go to that folder. Delete all the "index" files ("supplemental" as well) and the LibraryIndex.db file, so the folder is empty! Start L4 and it should begin indexing.

EDIT: forgot to ask you to do a disk scan in case there are errors!

Hey again Dave,

I checked the resources on both PC libraries and they are both at 346 (I have Leader's Version). I found one LibraryIndex folder under "C:/Documents and Settings/Ken/Application Data/Libronix DLS/Library/Preferences/LDLS/LibraryIndex", but it shows as empty. I'm guessing that's for version 3 but that still works fine and nothing is showing. I then confirmed I have the PC set to show hidden files and that is the case. And to make it more strange the LibraryIndex folder never showed up when searching the C drive - I only found it through Wndows Explorer. But absolutely no "Logos4" files or even the db file other than the few I mentioned in the earlier post - I must either be pulling my library off the internet each time or it's hiding the folders and not allowing a search to kick them out. What you're asking should be a piece of cake but doesn't appear in either searches or through Windows Explorer. I feel like a dummy but built this PC from scratch so should at least be able to find these folders on it!

I originally downloaded everything off the internet instead of waiting for the DVD to arrive, but now that it's here I'm thinking I should wait until this weekend, wipe the existing program (what little I can find!) and reinstall using the DVD, as it must have been a squirrelly install for simple folders to not be showing up. If that makes sense to you I'll try to do in in a couple days and let you know how it goes. Still wierd, though - the only issue I have is not being able to do searches properly but I can open up every book that I've tried going through the library. And it's not even a full moon tonight. Go figure. My guess is the PC is just hiding the files and I can't figure out why.

Anyway, I'll go ahead and try a full reload as to not tie up your time and will let you know how it turned out (probably Sat or Sun). Sure appreciate you hanging in with me and I'll talk soon. God Bless,

I haven't resolved the incomplete search issues yet but wanted to update you so you didn't think I blew you off :^)

I reloaded everything Friday a week ago and still had the search issues, but still had trouble finding the folders you mentioned. I called Logos support the next day and they helped me find them, looked at my issue and said they'd have to elevate it to another level of tech support. I got a fast call back that same Saturday from another tech and over the next week spoke to several people and had them remote onto my PC to see the issue themselves and they remained stumped. Several calls/emails later they have had me run some scripts and send some logs and screen shots, and their programmers are thinking that the indexing function is not working properly for me, but told me to hold off on deleting anything until they research it.

So...still waiting to see what they come up with and sticking with ver 3 in the meantime, as the desktop is where I do the bulk of my study and that's the one where the search function is messed up. I'll let you know the final resolution (whenever that is) so that you might be able to help others out. The main reason I'm dropping you a message is just to let you know I appreciate the help you gave and that I haven't forgotten my commitment to close the loop with you when it gets running ok.

That's about it - thanks again and I'll give the final verdict whenever I hear - they've been on it for a week and a half so hopefully soon! To their credit, the Logos support folks have been some of the nicest people to work with so I appreciate what they're doing as well.

Hi again Dave,

Looks like I got it fixed (finally!). The deleting of index files didn't help and Logos tech support was nice as could be but everyone I talked to was as stumped as I was. My issue fell into the black hole of the programmers looking into it, so after a couple weeks I came back to the forum and saw some people thinking that indexing issues may be linked to corrupted resources. So this time I went ahead and deleted both the index files AND all the resources. After reloading the resources and allowing the initial reindexing to take place, it seems to be working ok. I haven't run a ton of testing on it but the searches haven't come back with zero results yet so I think we're good to go.

So..I contacted tech support and let them know that if they (or anyone here) might run into someone with indexing problems, if the index deleting doesn't fix it you may want to consider that there might be a corrupted resource file that downloaded and have them delete and reinstall their resources. I'm sure tech support has some kind of script to validate downloaded resources but it doesn't take that long to just delete them and download them again.

Hopefully I'll be good to go now and I appreciate the assistance you gave me on this! Hope you have a great Christmas!
