Tagging and collections

Hello,

I plan to add 3000+ resources to my library and I would like to tag all of them with the same label.

Is there a way to tag them all in one operation? Unfortunately, they don't have anything in common in their title or author... and tagging each one manually would take too much time.

I could place them all in a separate directory.

Is there a way to tag all resources in a specific directory?

Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Also, would I be able to search only this collection by specifying its tag?

Open your library and make it so only these new resources that you want to tag are showing in the library list. Click on the first item in the list (not on the title or picture to avoid opening the resource) to make sure it's highlighted. Scroll to the very bottom of the list. While holding shift, click on the last title. This should highlight all items. On the right side of the library panel, there should be an option to add a tag to all the resources. Problem solved.

However, if they don't have anything in common to be able to separate the items and make only them show in the library list, this may be difficult. You may have to separate the items into smaller groups with things in common that allow you to segregate them from the rest of your library and follow the process above multiple times.

In the Library browser, right click on the top bar (where you see Title, Author, etc) and select "Last Updated" from the popup menu.

Now, click "Last Updated" once. You should see a downward caret. Your recently added resources should be at the top of the list.

Select the first one you wish to tag and scroll down to the last one you want to take. Hold down the Shift key and click on it. If you dod not have the info window displayed, click the little i beside the list view icon. Click "add tag" and enter you new tag. Now all the selected resources will have the same tag.

Do you need any other information?

Make sure all existing resources in your library have a rating. Then, when the new resources have downloaded, type rating:0 in the library find box and only your new resources will show up. After that you can use click>shift-click to select them all for tagging.

If your 3000 resources happen to be the Perseus collections it's even easier: just type Perseus in the library find box to filter everything else out.

Also, would I be able to search only this collection by specifying its tag?

Yes, mytags automatically show up in the Search dropdown.

I was first thinking of suggesting this method. The problem with it, however, is that there may be older, but just updated, resources hiding among the new ones, and with 3000 resources to scroll through, looking for those older ones isn't all that fun.

Thanks for the quick replies and solutions. Wow, I didn't realize I would get such quick turn-around on the forum.

The 3000+ files I'm talking about are the Holiness Data Ministry (HDM) files which I'm trying to get from The Wesley Center Online.

I have Logos 3 and I'm considering upgrading to Logos 4... but I wanted to do my homework upfront and see if it would be easy to import the files. I don't have a response yet on whether I can obtain the files in Logos format.

Reading some other threads on the HDM topic, it sounds like the files are in Logos 3 pbb format and that is not compatible with Logos 4. Is that correct?

Would I need the Microsoft Word files from which the Logos 3 pbb files were compiled in order to generate new ones for Logos 4?

If I can obtain the Microsoft Word files, is it easy to compile the thousands of files for Logos 4? I'm hoping pbb has some batch functionality.

Hi Vincentiu,

Yes, Logos 3 PBB files are not compatible with Logos 4.

To create L4-compliant Personal Books requires .docx formatted source files which might mean that even if you could obtain the Word source files they might need to be upgraded to the later version.

At the moment there is no "batch personal book compile" feature - any book needs to be compiled within the Logos UI environment.

Sounds like this could quite an undertaking!
