Citation Names

Two names same resource:

In the information window I see as the Citation given in the Chicago Manual of Style: John Nolland The Gospel of Matthew : A Commentary on the Greek Text. The New International Greek Testament Commentary: The Gospel of Matthew

It is listed in the search window as: The New International Greek Testament Commentary: The Gospel of Matthew | Matthew (NIGTC) John Nolland

But when I use the Chicago Manual of Style [the same style as used in the information window on that resource] I get: John Nolland, The Gospel of Matthew : A Commentary on the Greek Text, xviii–xix (Grand Rapids, Mich.; Carlisle: W.B. Eerdmans; Paternoster Press, 2005).

Am doing some research and am trying to match up the Citation given when I cut and paste with the list given in the search list that found the hit. [am using the search list to keep my list of hits in order]

I am probably missing something here, but even with the Chicago style is not a Bibliographical entry formed differently than a footnote/endnote entry?

Isn't the difference where the NIGTC comes in the title - it is certainly curious..

In Settings [under tools] I have citation style set to Chicago Manual Style

When I open a resource and click on the resource information circle I find that the Chicago Manual Style is used.

When I do a search I do not find a Style button so I assume that the style used by Logos 4 will be the Chicago Manual Style and expect it to be used everywhere.

When I copy and paste a selection the citation is listed as: John Nolland, The Gospel of Matthew : A Commentary on the Greek Text, xviii–xix (Grand Rapids, Mich.; Carlisle: W.B. Eerdmans; Paternoster Press, 2005).

[Note that the line “The New International Greek Testament Commentary: The Gospel of Matthew” does not appear]

In a search this resource is listed as: The New International Greek Testament Commentary: The Gospel of Matthew | Matthew (NIGTC) John Nolland

In a search this resource is in the ‘N’ section [the NEW] [after dropping the ‘the’]
In a pasted citation this resource is in the ‘G’ section [the GOSPEL]

When I sort my bibliography of resources used this resource ends up in the G section but my listing of the sort results has in the N section.

How do I sort my bibliography as captured from the citations to match my Search Results? [trying to check to see if I skipped any]

[I have tried several other citation styles but the words “The New International Greek Testament Commentary:” do not appear in the ones I tried in the paste citation]

That maybe part of my problem. [And we can not copy and paste from the resource information window]

But it just seemed logical that one resource would have one name that would show everywhere with out dropping the set name that it was part of if that set name was used to identify the resource in some places. If the set name was listed I could find it - with out the set name the only hint I have is that I copied all of the hits I used in the order that they were sorted. [and when the citation does not match the sort name I go looking] And Yes, if I ever write the book that I am researching, the final bibliography should be in author sort order. but sort does not offer a by author order.

This is true. I don't know that the footnote citation of this resource would completely ignore the umbrella commentary title or if it is doing it on purpose because that is what the Manual calls for. I don't have a Chicago Manual Style with me and I never cited commentary series so I am not familiar with how to cite them.

That being said, the information panel is confusing. The title at the "About" section is flipped when compared to the Citation section. I'm going to look into this. I'll update you as I'm informed.

Oh, and just FYI, the whole citation system is being re-worked. I don't know when that re-work will go out to the public though, nor do I have any other details as to "how" it is being re-worked.

The series citation data was added for this resource several months ago, but there's a bug that's causing the footnote citation to use the old, incorrect, citation data. Hence the inconsistency between the info panel and the footnote.

This bug has been fixed in 4.5c beta 4.

OK, am not a beta tester but have left a post or two on the beta forum [and did thank the beta testers for their hard work] will wait for ‘c’. then will review my current project for all series citation and how would you like any errors I find reported?

If you're online, Logos checks our servers for metadata updates at startup. The updates are downloaded onto your system, so you'll still see the new data if you use Logos offline after that.
