Citations Here but Not There

Most of my copying into documents has been from commentaries and all has been well. Recently I tried to copy from some other sorts of books. To my surprise, sometimes I get a footnote reference and sometimes I get only the copied text. It's not a matter of a resource that somehow can't be referenced because when I don't get a reference simply by copying to the clipboard, I can get one by copying to a clippings document and then exporting to the clipboard. Of course, this is an inconvenient, extra step and I don't understand why it should be necessary.

For example, I don't get reference citations when copying from Torrey's Revival Addresses or from Fasal's Preaching Evangelistically. But I do get reference citations from Wesleys's Sermons on Several Occasions.

Is this a matter of my ignorance? Or is there some defect with the resources?

Including/excluding footnotes is a preference that one sets. The amount of text copied can determine whether a citation is included or not.

Example: Has citation:

Too short for citation to be triggered:
"Requests have come from many quarters for" [too short - no citation]

I did a little testing, and It seems to be a character, not word, requirement. There needs to be at least 40 characters pasted from the clipboard (that was counting a comma).

Interesting. I thought that meant it was the same number that defines NEAR, but now that I look it up NEAR is 48 characters. Any reason for the difference? It would be easier to remember if it was the same.

Where were you copying from? Book/page number or other identifying information would be great for further testing. I didn't see any references in previous posts with the term "NEAR" in them.

The way I repeated the behavior was by just copying and pasting a bit until the footnote was brought over, then reduced by character until it stopped pulling the footnote.

Thanks for the help. Apparently, the problem was a transient one, since it's working now. It's possible that I may have been confused by the fact that a minimum number of characters or words is required, since I wasn't aware of that behavior. But, I was copying sermon illustrations and so it seems unlikely that I would have been below the minimum amount.in each instance that I tried. I should have exited and restarted Logos just on general principles. But I find that, unlike some Windows applications, Logos is usually rock solid so it didn't occur to me to do so.

For the record, in case anyone should visit this thread in the future, one way I've managed to get confused in the past is by pasting into a document format that doesn't support footnotes; since the citations appear as footnotes they won't show up in such a document.. However, since I found that citations worked for one resource but not the other that couldn't have been the problem in this instance.
