Language dictionaries w/ particular info?

Hey everyboody,

Does anybody know a Logos Greek or Hebrew dictionary that shares what English words are derived from these original languages. For instance, "PROTOS = first. Where we get our English word 'prototype'."

These definitely helped me learn my vocab, and make the information more useful to my congregation.

Search your Merriam-Webster Dictionary as this has an extensive Etymology eg.

Just note that Etymological studies are only partially helpful as in your example. But just because dunamis is the root of dynamite that does not mean that God's power is like dynamite.

The ideal, I think, would be to use the insight we receive from the original languages to aid us in accurately understanding the text, but then communicating that understanding with as little direct reference to the original languages as possible. Of course in a academic setting the reverse is more true. Those that continually hear, "the Hebrew or Greek has this expressive meaning" tend to make it quite a ways up that wall too.
