For those interested in Christocentric hermeneutics, the The Person and Work of Christ Collection by Gary Staats looks exciting. To hear him explain some of his hermeneutical principles you can navigate to the Ruggles Church resource page and specifically to the Christ in the OT section.
Thanks for the links
After listening to the first few lectures in the link above I'm canceling my order. He holds positions in serious conflict with DA Carson's Exegetcal Fallacies.
If you could cite any examples, Dave, then it might help others decide whether they had similar concerns.
Andrew,
His position on word studies is not... traditional. He prefers to use every single nuance of a word regardless of context. The instance that Stands out in my mind is Gen 2:15 where he stated that the word "work" means more than three things at the same time. Carson (and everyone else I've heard talk about responsible exegesis) says this is a no no. Also, he said that the tree of life and tree of the knowledge of good and evil point to the cross, not by their function, but by the fact that they are trees and the cross is occasionally called a tree.
His position on word studies is not... traditional.
Or is it very traditional - it bears a distinct similarity to some methods 100BC-200AD
I didn't want to say "irresponsible" so I said "not traditional." Take your pick. [:)]
