Frustrating: indexing time

I am sorry to report this.
This weekend I decided to reinstall Logos 4 (stable, was not on beta). I deleted all files. I did not download the resources (10.500+ = 24+ GB) but did a "scan resources from an external disk. This worked fine.
Bible index did take 6 hours.
Indexing the other library: I stopped this, as I could not use the mac for study etc. Totally unusable when indexing is running or even when stopped for 4 hours.
Indexing was busy for more than 24 hours (I believe 26 hours) and only at 26% when I decided to stop this!! I did check the logs, no problem.
I have a new MacBook Pro, much memory etc.
Fot now, I decided not to run Logos 4 because it takes to much time. I am reading from my Ipad now.
What can be the problem. Is this normal? Even with a very large library? I have about 400 personal books that are also being indexed. Should I leave these out for the moment?
I have done reindexing before, but did not encounter these problems then.

Hello Hans,
Did the indexing process stop at 26%, or was it still moving (or seemingly so), just at a slow rate? If you paused indexing for four hours, or any length of time, that will lengthen the time it takes to index (for obvious reasons). If you looked at the indexer log and saw no errors it is likely it was still working. Can you post the Indexer logs? Here are instructions http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging
Thank you.

Hello Tommy,
I stopped the indexer myself. I could not wait any longer.
Here is part of the log file after I started another time (after the 26 hours).
I can see nothing suspicious in the log file. I can make some time to test, so I you have suggestions how to proceed?
Should I do a fresh download? I am a bit addicted to the program, but it's frustrating to wait soo long.

Hello Hans,
The log you submitted records only one day (July 10) and stretches less than an hour.
The first and last time stamp-- 07/10/2012 07:40:54 to 07/10/2012 08:17:24
The indexer ends at the 8:17 mark having indexed 494 of 10,800 resources. That isn't that bad. As I said in my last post, if the indexer did not actually stop at a certain percentage, than it was probably still going. I didn't see anything in the log file that indicated anything was wrong. You have a very large library and a very large library requires a very large index file(s). Creating it takes time. I can't guarantee that starting fresh will provide you with a speedier result, but clean installs have less variables then ones where you manually are copying books from an older library into a new setup.

Here is part of the log file ...
Looking at Indexer.log snippet, noticed Bible Indexing has completed. Library Indexing started over. Personal Book index has 233 resources that need indexing.
Personally have learned to launch Logos 4 Mac to work offline when indexing so a resource update does not interrupt indexing, which takes many hours.
Indexing has become storage (disk) intensive; wonder about heat ?
If MacBook Pro has a hard drive, curious about speed (or model) ?

Tommy, I know.
After downloading I did the indexing, leaving the Mac alone.
After 46 hours the indexing was done. Now I have to reindex my personal books again :-(
Thanks for your help, Hans

reindexing personal books usually isn't that big of a deal… its when you have to reindex your entire Logos library that you get the long wait.

IMHO Logos should provide a reliable, easy solution to move your whole library (resources) and indexes to a new Mac.
One option is voting => http://logos.uservoice.com/forums/42823-logos-bible-software-4/suggestions/521109-move-to-second-computer-wizard
Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_Multiple_Macs that has some ways for quick installation.

That seems about normal. I have a 2011 Macbook (i5) and about 8000 resources (only 3 personal books). I did a clean install on ML (using Scan resources instead of downloading the entire library). Indexing took about 36 hours. The computer was usable but very slow during indexing. L4 on Windows 7 took about 11 hours for the same library on a slightly newer computer (ivy bridge i5). Fortunately we only need to do a complete index once.
