Basic Help: Resource Associations O.T. and N.T. linked bibles, and visual filters and notes

Hello all: New to Logos 4 as of today.

I'm a moderately skilled user, but not a power user by any means.

Quick question: In Logos 3, when I linked an English text bible with a Greek or Hebrew text, I could tweak the resource associations so when I went from O.T. to N.T. (or vice versa) in English it would automatically toggle to the corresponding original language.

Is this possible in version 4?

Also, I see that visual filters and notes will be "added very soon." Does this mean that Logos 4 will automatically import my filters and notes from version 3?

Welcome to L4.

It seems to me that it is easier in L4 to link. I opened three texts: BHS, NA27 & ESV set them all to "A" and when I move in the ESV to OT BHS follows and when I move in ESV to NT NA27 follows. I've done this with NRSV, NASB and I think NIV as well. You set them to Link by clicking on the icon at the top left of the resource pane.

It is not clear how the import will work. It may require some intervention - say if files locations are moved or L3 has been deleted already - or if you want to designate what matches with what, etc. I think we'll have to wait and see, but I may have missed something.

What you can't do in L4 is set up an OT and NT as a serial resource association, so that scrolling past Malachi in the MT will bring up Matthew in the NA27, which is what I think you're saying you used to do. But you can have both open in separate tabs, and have them both linked to the English text. You'll just have to manually switch to the appropriate tab you when you flick between testaments.

I just got version four today as well. I am disappointed to learn that the serial resource association is not available. I just got off the phone with support. They directed me here for an answer. The answer I got from them was what Chris said.

Christine told me that if we ask enough times or loudly enough they may make that feature available.

It is disappointing to pay for an upgrade and loose functionality.

I'm also interested in having this functionality restored. It should be possible to move around among 'random' bible addresses, whether OT or NT, and automatically have the proper original language text appear (without having to click around on tabs each time one transitions between OT and NT).

The ability to build a 'composite' original language Bible covering both testaments was a powerful feature which I'm also missing.

I may be missing the point but: I was able to create a collection of the NICOT, a second collection for NICNT, After this I made a 3rd collection containing NICNT and NICOT. It's working great for me.

Maybe I'm missing something on this end, but I am not aware of how making a collection would change how this operates? My understanding was that a collection is merely a way of specifying a subset of one's library for use in searching.

I don't have the NICOT and NICNT, but aren't these just a collection of OT and NT commentaries which are all in English? I'm guessing that commentary sets are set up to work together when you move around to different bible addresses by default.

The case the previous posts is in relation to is using two different Bibles (say NA27 Greek and BHS Hebrew) and having them operate together as a single text spanning the entire OT and NT. When at an OT address, the Hebrew (BHS) is shown. Then, when the address changes to something in the NT, the Greek (NA27) is shown. (In Logos 3, this took place within a single tab--not by having parallel resources in different windows/tabs.)

So I'm somewhat fuzzy about whether the NICOT/NICNT example applies? I can make a collection containing a single Hebrew OT text and a single Greek NT text, but this doesn't seem to cause one to automatically switch to the other when I cross the OT/NT boundary.

NICOT/NICNT jumps around the whole bible because there is a built in serial resource association (to use L3 language) for those resources. Unfortunately there is no option to create these ourselves, and nothing is built in between NA27 and BHS. It is a little annoying. However, to get it in perspective, it's quite possible to have both resources open next to one another, and it only takes one click to flick between the two.

Right. It isn't a show-stopper by any means, but a "would be nice" and a feature some of us used heavily in Logos 3 which we miss.

I agree with Anthony - when flipping between OT and NT I want don't want to have to click on a tab to display the appropriate resource. L3 did it automatically.

Well, Mark, that's fine for a workaround, but it is not as seamless. You either have to have BHS and NA27 open in separate windows (meaning one is wasted space at all times) or tab between the two, which adds mouseclicks/keystrokes. I loved that Logos 2.0 and Libronix let me do this without the fuss or clutter.

Yes, Mark, it is possible to have two open windows, one of which is not on the text we are looking at, or to have BHS and NA tabs in a window, but the point is, serious bible students shouldn't have to mess with either of those, when Libronix was able to handle the transition seamlessly.
