Is there a way to incorporate personal Word documents into Logos? I have many papers I have done and would like to utilize Logos Indexing and synchronization... is this possible with other non Logos folders in my computer?

Is there a way to incorporate personal Word documents into Logos?
Yes, through the personal book builder. The files need to be .docx.

To add to Alabama's reply, your personal books won't yet be synchronized across multiple Logos installations or mobile apps. That feature is on Logos' roadmap, though I don't think they've mentioned a timeframe yet.

If all you need is indexing and synchronization, then it might be adequate to make a Notes resource and add your document(s) to the Note using cut and paste. I have added a folder called "Imported Resources" to my Favorites where I keep links to my imported documents.
Notes will participate in searches, Bible references become clickable links, and this method will allow your papers to be synchronized to desktop and laptop versions. However, notes are not available on mobile devices.
Notes are available on all iOS devices...on the Android platform I think it's in beta and will be available in the next release.
Yes, I see that notes that are "attached" to book resources can be seen and changed from IOS devices, but I was hoping that my Favorites link to my "unattached" note would be visible from my IOS device. The reason for the imported book resource is not so that it can be a note for a particular book.
I had created a Notes file which I named AW Pink since I had a short essay which I wanted to be searchable. I dragged a link to that Notes file to my Favorites so that I could easily find it later and associate it with other resources. I created a directory name Imported documents in Favorites where I keep the link. I created a note with the name of the essay within that Notes file where I pasted the contents of the essay from a pdf. From my iPad the directory is visible, but the link to the Notes file is not.
Using your suggestion I created a note on my iPad in a book that I happened to be reading and was able to create the note within my AW Pink Notes file. However, at this point I did not find a way to read the other note in the same file that contained the essay.
Going back to my laptop I copied and pasted a portion of the essay into the newly created note which was "attached" to my book. After a synchronization the snippet of the essay could be read by selecting the note within my book.
So the "essay" could be synchronized to a mobile device, but unless someone has a better method, the imported essay would have to be located by opening an existing resource with the note.
All this with an eye to having an imported resource synchronized across all your platforms since Personal Books will not synchronize.
You are correct, David, that "unattached" notes are not currently available on the mobile app.
