Oswald Chamber - 50% off - but still unavailable on mobile devices

Sounds nice. But still not available on iPad, iPhone, or Android. Chambers is a pefect example of a resource that, if I had to chose between having it on the PC or a single mobile device I would chose the mobile device any day. I've owned the big huge concordance-size works volume for years; it came with a CD containing all of the material in Logos format. For this type of material, the book is far too heavy, and the PC far too awkward, so this resource is (for me at least), is rarely used despite the excellencies it contains.

This lack of availability on mobile devices is becoming a bigger issue for me and has caused me to buy some resources on Amazon instead of through Logos where they're also available.

I love that with Logos the material is all linked together and integrated. But some material is better read away from a computer. The Warren Wiersbe "Be" series is an example for me. I like that it comes up as a commentary option when I'm doing a study at my computer. But I'd also like to be on the couch or in bed reading it for enjoyment.

I understand that there are issues with some titles and apparently Logos doesn't have the rights to provide it on mobile. But when I see the same books available on Amazon for mobile devices, it gets a bit frustrating not to have the option for Logos.

This is an issue that comes up perennially. The heart of the matter is that Bob believes if you purchase a resource, you SHOULD be able to view that resource anywhere, anytime. Some publishers, on the other hand, feel differently. The issue generally isn't the publisher not allowing the resource on mobile, but rather that the publisher wants extra money or an additional license for that resource. Bob has drawn a line in the sand and is unwilling to sell separate licenses for desktop & mobile. This is for our benefit. If one publisher could push Logos into this change, why wouldn't/shouldn't ALL publishers follow suit for ALL resources? I much prefer the 80%+ availability over having to pay for an extra license 100% of the time.

I'm probably missing a key component or distinction here.

Let's use the Wiersbe "Be" series as an example. I can buy it here at Logos and, in fact, some of the series came with my base package. With Logos, under my account, I can read it on my computer, but not my iPad.

The same "Be" books can be bought on Amazon where I can read it on my PC, on a Kindle, on my iPad Kindle app, my iPhone, etc. The book is mine to read on any device I have that is registered to my Amazon account.

So in a sense I feel the publisher is already allowing the exact same thing I want to do through Logos: Buy a product and read it either on my computer or on my mobile device.

Unless I'm wrong, I doubt Amazon has to license the Wiersbe books for all the different ways customers can access their Kindle purchases.

Not meaning in any way to be argumentative here, or disagreeing with Bob's position, or expecting you to have the answer. Just wondering our loud why publishers see Logos different than they do Amazon's or Apple's bookstores.

The best answer I can give is that contracts are all different. Just because a pub allows it with one distributor, doesn't mean they will allow it with another. Case in point: Walmart can bully manufactures in ways other retailers can't. If a company wants their goods in Walmart bad enough, they will make a deal. The same is true with the big A. That's why the pubs were so willing to go along with Apple and the agency model.

Me, too. Something like Oswald Chambers - that I will read cover to cover - is better for me in a format that I can read on my iPad than in Logos, if it is not available on my iPad. A thousand times better.

It may be a publisher's issue, but that is irrelvent for my use of the material or my purchase decision. I have to buy the book in a form from which I can get the best use. Normally, that would be Logos, but not if I can't read the book except on a computer screen.

For example, I didn't buy the A. W. Tozer collection until I verified that I could read it on my iPad.

It sounds like a sweet deal ... on the blog it states 50% off the retail price. However it is only 20% off the regular price. I wish that Logos would compare the regular prices with the sale price when promoting products. Considering that these are not available on mobile deviices and also considering that most of us will already have some of these titles makes the sale no quite as appealing. As for me I willl wait for a better sale.
