Logos 4 triggers switch to discrete GPU

Hi,

I just noticed that, when I start Logos 4 under OS X Mountain Lion, it triggers the switch to the discrete GPU. I do not remember seeing it in OS X Lion recently.

Well it is not really doing anything that is graphically intensive, it just makes my machine hotter and burn my battery :-(

Just an observation.

Actually just opening the L4 home page is graphically intense because Logos is using wpf programming. Logos bet on wpf and lost and you've noticed how that affects us. Obviously that doesn't exactly apply to your Mac but the underlying issue is there.

I provided a similar feedback to MacUpdate Desktop 5, which uses WebKit to render information, and WebKit by default causes the GPU to become active.They fixed it very quickly to not to turn on GPU by default (without thinking).

We do not need the power of GPU to render Logos Home page [:)]

There's a very small program you can download that will tell you which GPU is being used and allow you to force it to stay on the integrated graphics.

I have been using gfxCardStatus every since I got my MacBookPro, you can see the screen shot it in the original post. I used it to switch based on power mode; when on battery, discrete GPU will not be activated, when plugged-in it is Dynamic.

However, it will be nice if Logos do not activate discrete GPU, as what it is doing is not really graphically intensive that requires it. I also do not want to totally turn off the discrete GPU, as some apps I run actually need it :-)
