I've been installing the near 5 GB application for hours now, but recently it has been stuck on 97% for at least 4 hours now, which obviously isn't right. Is this a normal occurrence or should I cancel and re-download?

It is not 'normal' but it is not unknown. [:)] try quitting the program from the dock and restarting it - you will probably find that this kick starts the indexing process.
I know that isn't very mac like - but Logos has Windows characteristics living under the hood and occasionally they come out and bite us.
Indexing BTW is another long slog.
Another Windows gremlin that sometimes pokes it head from under the brush pile is the occasional need to restart your Mac. This does seem to have gotten better over the last several releases, however.

Not too long after posting this I actually canceled the installation process and restarted, just hoping to do the process over, only to find what you wrote: everything was there and not too long after it started indexing which just finished up this morning!
