From what I just read this is written by an Orthodox Jewish Professor in the Talmud, who argues that it was quite common and thus perfectly normal for first century Jews to expect the arrival of a Son of Man who was God Himself, and that even the Christian doctrine of a Triune God is rooted in Jewish beliefs BC. Sounds like something I'd like to read.
(The Amazon page also tipped me off to a NYT article about an archaeological find I'd missed: Ancient Tablet Ignites Debate on Messiah and Resurrection. Quite interesting.)
