Can we have the ability to place shortcuts to resources on the Android desktop?

I would love this. Given the other items the Android team is working on, I wager it's lower on the todo list though.
YouVersion has a widget with today's chapters for a reading plan. This would be wonderful for Logos so that I can get rid of YouVersion.
I would love to be able to put a particular book I'm reading on the desktop and open it to the furthest read position with a tap from the desktop shortcut. Alternatively, I'd love to be able to click on a reading plan shortcut and go straight to the day's reading. Save some clicks and take advantage of some of Android's features.

It has attracted only 10 votes in those 4 years...
Seems other features are more important to most users...
