Logos 4 crashes every time when creating a shortcut

Each time I drag a tab to the shortcuts area, logos 4 crashes! Not seen the problem listed anywhere. Tutorial does sit easy, but not working. Windows 7 home premium heaps of laptop capacity.

Andrew - Welcome to the forums! Sorry you are having troubles. I am a mac guy, so others will have to come along to help you most likely. It would be helpful if you could post some logs. Here is a link to the wiki article about it: http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging

Andrew I am on the Beta, so that may not be of much comfort, but it works for me. Can you say which resource you are trying to drag to the short cut bar? Are you running the latest stable version? The best way to ensure that you are up to date, is to type update now in the command bar.

The logs are rather nebulous in that it could be a Windows issue rather than L4 directly. What is in the tab i.e. resource, Guide, Tool, document? Does it happen irrespective of content?

Thanks all;
1. All updates were in place.
2. Crash happens with no matter what the rescource is I drag to the "shortcut" drop area. I'm trying to create a shortcut to the faithlife study bible (tab) amongst other things. I'm a beginner in L4 and checked web tutorials to be sure it was able to do what I thought it should, NB typo should be "tutorial does it easy". Problem has been this way since upgrading/injstalling L4; Logos Bible Software 4.5c SR-4 (4.53.0.2299) (Bible Study Library (JG))
3. More logs attached, including a screen dump of a Windows error report address, which is actually empty!. Do these logs help? Maybe needs a full reinstall?
4. It doesn't sound like others are having this problem with L4 on Win7 home premium. NB good laptop; i5, 500GB, 4GB DDR3 ram, Nvidia GF GT320M x1GB vid card.

This is occurring when starting L4. I suggest you:-
- go to Control Panel
- open Programs and Festures
- right-click Logos Bible software 4
- select Repair from the menu
If this does not work:
- rename C:\Users\a\AppData\Local\Logos4\Documents\yndk3dpe.xbd\ShortcutsManager\shortcuts.db to shortcuts.old.
- (ensure you can view Hidden files and folders in Explorer)
- start L4
If that does not work I suggest waiting for a Logos tech to respond OR contact Logos Support directly.

The error log shows that there is a problem in trying to create the thumbnail image for the shortcut icon ("No imaging component suitable to complete this operation was found."). This is followed by the crash.
This is an error in the "Windows Imaging Component" which is part of Windows 7. Searching the Internet shows that quite a number of other people have experienced this problem (in apps other than Logos 4), but I no one seems to have found a solution for the problem. My guess is that some registry keys or DLLs are missing, but there's no officially-documented way to repair this component.
I'm adding a workaround for this crash to Logos 4.6. What will probably happen is that the shortcut will be created, but it will have a blank icon (because even the fallback icon is failing to load). However, the app shouldn't crash. In the meantime, you'll just have to avoid creating shortcuts until 4.6 is available; sorry for the inconvenience.
BTW, are you noticing that many images in the program happen to be missing? E.g., book cover thumbnails, panel menu icons, etc.?

Appreciate the explanation.......and that a fix is planned for the future. Re Other thumbnails appear to be active, ie NIV ESV bible Cheers.

Woohoo! 4.6 downloaded, all shortcuts loaded (1st time) and new ones created, no problem. Makes navigation a whole lot easier!
