Open a layout directly from a desktop shortcut

How do I setup a desktop shortcut to open Logos 4 to a specific layout? I am using Windows XP SP3.

The shortcut which normally opens Logos has in its "target:" field: "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Logos4.exe" I have tried placing the name of the layout right after that but that doesn't work. Actually it seems that anything at all, including a space, after the command line string opens a blank layout. A neat trick in and of itself but not what I want.

Basically what I want is to be able to place a launch icon on the desktop of my wife's computer that opens Logos 4 directly to a layout I designed for her rather than whatever layout I happened to use last on my computer.

Hi Britt, Welcome to the Forum!

i don't think what you are trying to do will work.

But you could add a Shortcut on Logos4's shortcut bar and show your wife how to just click on it after she opens Logos4. Its easy to do and simple.

EDIT: Britt, if you are a programmer type, then you could create an app or a script which would open Logos4 and then send a command to open your wife's layout. (See this wiki page: http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4_COM_API , and search for LoadLayout)

Hey thanks, Britt and welcome to the forums. Just what I needed (blank for a layout on load). Works.

What you're wanting has been requested before day 1 and thereafter. You're best best is to put her layout among the icons at the top maybe with special text etc. Then use your 'tip' to load a blank.

EDIT: I tried pinning Logos to the task bar, but then it looses it's dummy argument (and therefore loads the most recent layout). But still, I put a Logos icon on my desktop for when I do NOT want it loading my monster layout that I last used.

EDIT2: I notice in Window-ese that converting an open program to a pinned looses the dummy argument. But dragging the icon onto the taskbar keeps it. So, now I have TWO Logos icons on my taskbar, one for a blank opening and one for last used layout.

Yes, that is what I have done for her. I created an internal logos icon to her layout that she can click on after loading the "empty" layout. Letting her load an empty layout is nice, especially since I often just close Logos after having opened several complex "search" tabs and "exegetical guide" tabs and "bible word study" tabs etc. etc. All those try to load and repeat themselves the next time. That takes a lot of time on her significantly less powerful netbook.

However, starting Logos with this "tweak" in the icon is probably not supported and I wonder about stability issues. So far I have not noticed any difference and I use it a lot.

By the way, I noticed I had to rename the windows icon that loads the empty layout from "Logos Bible Software 4" to "Logos Bible Software" (or any other name one might want like "Logos Blank" etc.) to avoid the icon being replaced with the default icon after an update is installed.

Hadn't thought about the on-desktop icon being swiped by Logos.

Well, anyway I have both on my taskbar now and they work great.

Since I use a touchscreen tablet, I don't want multiple windows of the same software using the same taskbar icon (so I can click on the Logos-OT window or Logos-NT window, etc). But as luck would have it, the icon that has the dummy argument re-uses to the other taskbar icon (the one not having the dummy argument). So it works out well.
