If new Logos 5 were to come out

Would I have to purchase an entire new software or do I do an upgrade?

If Logos were to come out you would be able to crossgrade for free and keep all of your resources.

Your resources will not be lost. You can simply move to the new software for free. However, there may be features in the new software that require resources you don't have which would require an upgrade to be able to use.

No one will know until it comes out.

As stated, "Nobody knows until it's released", but, if this gives you any type of idea, my upgrade was $150 from Logos 3 to the the equivalent Logos 4, for the extras. I had the $600 Scholar's version. I'm sure the upgrade would have been higher on the Silver or Gold versions. (Platinum is new for 4, so, hard telling how much that would be).
In case you did not have 3, there were a lot of additional books on 4, 150-200 plus the interlinears for each translation. If there is no huge upgrade in books, then it may not be so much. If theres a lot more additions, then, yes, it may be more.0 -
The upgrade price primarily comes from additional resources added to base packages.
For example, commentary sets that have released additional volumes since L4 would be added to the new version's base package. Upgrading a base package when a new version is released is cheaper than buying those additional volumes separately.

I think it likely that while you could just freely upgrade to the new Logos 5, there will be new tools or features that you will have to pay for in order to utilize. I also suspect the new tools or features will be significant enough that most people will certainly want to buy them - especially those who already have an investment in Logos resources.
I agree that there would likely also be some new package bundling of resources to entice purchases. But all the costs of upgrading will not be for new books. Some will be for new tools or functions.
Othewise, why an upgrade at all?
Of course, we are all just pooling our ignorance and guessing about this. But it is fun.

In order to *ahem* dispense with the downgrade from L3.

L5 will likely be just a re-badge and no upgrade costs. But L6 will almost have to be a feature downgrade in order to commonize across platforms and tie-in software. That's one big reason Bob drags his feet on new L4 functionality saying programming is a real challenge.

The L4 cross-grade is $69.95. But that includes several hundred dollars worth of resources, so I'm thinking if there is a cross-grade for L5 it should be similar.
