I'd like to see Logos 5 be more simple.
Maybe it's me (yep, probably is) but, when I do a search for part of a verse I know, let's use John 1 and "Word was with God" as an example, I don't get a result for the Bible. must i have concordances for ALL my Bibles to get a reference? Am I doing something wrong? Missing a step? This SHOULD be a super basic procedure. Every other Bible software program this was a given.
If concordances are necessary for every bible, then I would make this suggestion for Logos 5: in the same manner that Logos 4 had interlinears added, make Logos 5 have concordances for every Bible.

When the Persues (sp?) came out, I discovered just how disheveled Logos really is. So much so, that I had to call and request the entire library be removed. While i have been told a way to have the titles categorized by simply pressing a button, I for one think that Logos should by default categorize titles by category, eg., Bibles, Commentaries, Perseus (sp?), etc. Items sold as a set (for example, the works of DL Moody, eg. 26 volumes) should be cataloged as they are sold. When the Spurgeon Collection comes, will I have 2000+ individual titles I will have to sift through, or, will they be cataloged as "The Complete Spurgeon Collection"? While some may be happy to simply press the "author" button and have everything show properly, I for one think that should be secondary, not the primary way to find something. Particularly when we are talking about "small" collections having potentially several thousand titles.

In short, if it's sold as a collection, shouldn't it be cataloged as a collection?

This works - and is a standard part of Logos.

You need to ensure you are doing a "Bible search" - see top right.

How are you doing your search, what are you seeing?

The Perseus collection was "catalogued" by Publisher as per the screen shot below.

While there are a number of enhancements which have been request for Library Management I'm not sure I understand the specific issue you are referring to here.

I sometimes have a problem locating a passage as well, but I find that when this happens I'm generally making a basic mistake. If you remember something about a passage but can't find it in your favorite version, you may be remembering the way it is translated in another version. I generally find that I tend to remember the AV since that is what I grew up with and memorized. Expand the number of versions you use so that you have a better chance of finding it in one of them (You can a always read the same passage in your favorite version). I would also recommend that you narrow your search to the portion of the bible where you will be likely to find your passage. This doesn't improve the likelihood of your finding it, but it does narrow the number of hits you need to wade through. If, e.g. you don't remember that "Word was with God" is in the GoJ, perhaps you can narrow it down to the gospels or for other searches, perhaps you might want to search Paul. You don't need a concordance for every version, but you need to use a little intelligence in searching. Also, sometimes it's better to search for one distinctive word in a passage rather than a phrase. Recently Nicki asked about lying visions, which brought to mind 1 Kings 22 but I didn't remember its location. I remembered it involved Micaiah ben Imlah so I simply searched for "Imlah."

I would hope Legends has figured out how to do a Bible search (I hope anyway). But his point is quite true. And it's certainly not specific to Logos.

My guess is we've all gotten used to Google and Yahoo searches that know common errors and synonymns. So going back to a 'type it right or else!' is often frustrating.

That's one reason (of many of course) that I like Libronix ... it was moving in the direction of an 'advanced' panel search similar to Google where you can't remember the command lingo etc. But Logos4 hated panels so users are forced to flail around trying this and that. Most of the time I give up and use my own software that accepts straight string searches.

Ok, so, I was looking for "Faith comes by hearing", I type the fewest possible words, to get the most desired results. In this case, Faith hearing. And, as you suggested, using the "Bible" search. 0 results and now as I demonstrate this, I see my flaw. It was searching Bible text is CGU? Whatever that is. Changed to All Bibles, and got the desired results. Ok, maybe not, but, over 12,000. Which in it's own odd way, is better than 0.

There was a problem I was not expecting, because I didn't know it even existed. I was searching with something called CGU. Saw that, and changed it to "All Bibles" and went from 0 results to 12,000.

Yes, I usually use minimal key words, so as to bring up the fewest possible results (although, zero is not what I had in mind when I say "fewest possible results", lol).

I was raised with a tossing of the wind philosophy on modern translations. When my mother went to more accepting churches, we used modern translations. When we went to KJ only churches, that's what we used. Most of my memorizing was via KJ, even at the churches that accepted modern versions, because back then, as you know, that was standard for memorization. So, yup, that does cause issues, hunting down KJV wordings, when searching NIV, TNIV and ESV.

That's absolutely how I feel. I had an easier time learning Libronix. But, I only had it a few months before 4 came out.
While I am sure if I were to take the time necessary to learn how to make use of this software, I would learn it, it seems rather silly to have such a powerful tool that has such a huge learning curve. (At least to me). I'm used to all the commentaries being in one place, the Bibles in their place, the other books in their place. Here. it seems a bit counter-productive. But, I am beginning to see that things can almost be the way I like it. Simple (now, did I just say THAT? Most people think I complicate things. lol).

Thanks I now know the problem. Logos 4 has emotions (at least hate) and behaves like an incalcitrant 4 year old. Can we skip ahead to Logos 24?[:D]

Seriously, I found L4 easier to learn than L3 because it followed patterns I could relate to other software I use. But I agree that the Search function can be frustrating to get to return the set you expect - sufficiently so that I'm sometimes slow to trust results.
