Bug: 2.0.9 build 53 is not recognizing the next update. Of course I CAN download the update manually, but this is a bug in the program.

 Steps to reproduce

  • if I click on the gear icon and choose about
  • Scroll down to update channel
  • It is blank (I did have beta in there at one time)
  • I type in beta
  • There is no DONE button unless I rotate my screen.
  • The done button does nothing.
  • I can't get the new beta to be seen within the program.

 Expected Result

I expect the beta channel to stick

I expect the next update to be recognized and to download.

  System Specs

 Android | Samsung Galaxy Skyrocket | ICS 4.04 | Kernel 3.0.8

I've had this happen a couple times. Usually happened when Google Play decided to update the app unbeknownst to me. Of course a manual download & resetting the beta flag worked thereafter.

I can repeat the behavior, and am looking into this.

I believe LaRosa correctly identified the problem you're experiencing. The  app appears to have last been updated by Google Play or Amazon Appstore.

In 2.0.10 I fixed a bug that was displaying the Update channel field even when it was last installed or updated from a market. In this case the Update channel should not have been visible because updates are controlled by the market that last installed or updated it.

If you manually update to 2.0.10 you should see the Update channel field again.

Here are some tips if you don't want Google Play to update the app without your intervention:

    1. Always make sure to update when you see the channel update notification. The download url channels will always be updated before being submitted to the markets so if the app is updated I wouldn't expect Google Play to update it again.

    2. In Google Play don't enable automatic updates for the app.

I intentionally left off the recommendation to uninstall the app in Google Play because it is very helpful to app developers if users do have it installed or managed via Google Play. We get better crash reports (possibly containing repro instructions) and the number of active installs helps boost the app ranking. Of course it's also very helpful for a variety of users to install the public betas so we can expanded testing on a wide variety of Android devices and Logos.com accounts before publishing it to the general public in the stores.

not recognizing the next update. Of course I CAN download the update manually,

This was my experience from 2.04 through 2.09. 2.10 is the FIRST beta since 2.04 to work "automatically"...

I checked update channel each time, & it was correctly set to beta. There may yet be a bug in Bible.

    Grace & Peace,
    Bill
