One small step for some great improvements?

There is an "other" bible software program - that doesn't compare to LOGOS - which boasts an 'uncluttered workspace". I like LOGOS and resent their claim (within sanctified boundaries).

My point is, there are SO MANY resources in LOGOS that the workspace CAN become cluttered.

How about: Some kind of (user specified) ability to LOCK the tiles down when you want to limit the TABS to a particular number. If you open another resource, LOGOS would simply replace one of the TABS in the "active tile" with the new resource. If you want to see the last one ... right arrow key, or back arrow (something like that). This for me would give us the best of both worlds - the blessing of abundant resources along with the streamlined (uncluttered) workspace to make it much more user friendly.

Along this line I saw someone mention that RESOURCE TARGETS were activated so I could identify a particular Bible as the "go to" resource. Is this true?

I also tried some experiments with the "Send hyperlinks here" command on the leftmost large TAB in a particular tile - but with little effect. If I opened a new commentary, the resource opened in the (smaller) tile that has other commentaries and NOT in the larger tile as I had hoped.

Joel, I view a workspace like a pile of books that I gathered from my bookshelfs downstairs. Closing one is like walking back downstairs and putting the book on the shelf, walking back upstairs to my study chair ... only to discover that there is something else in the book that I want to check. [I know you will say - move your study chair downstairs and make your life a little easier]. There are times when the best thing to do is just close some books, but "ready resources" are just better. The fewer clicks away - the better in my book. Ease of use is what Logos is all about. I trust that things are going to continue to improve in every area. It's exciting to watch it unfold and to be able to offer what might sometimes be helpful ideas.

I'm a bit confused. If you're worried about books closing, why suggest something whereby books will be effectively closed by another book opening? I know you mentioned an arrow to go back and fourth between books that have been closed, but wouldn't a better option than that be to simply leave your history open for a quick recall?

I hope I'm making sense. I guess what I'm trying to say is- having an entire bookshelf open isn't going to be a super-easy thing to manage without saved workspaces and notes, no matter which way you slice it. What you've suggested as an idea (which is as a good idea in itself for those who like control over their tabbed items) likely won't save you much effort in the long run. You'll still have a ton of tabs, but you'd also have a history for each one. I don't know about you, but that sounds like a management nightmare to me

If I understand what you are asking for - we can mostly do this now.

In the above example I have EDNT, Vines, DBL, and my Bible all set up as targets as well as my search. This way as I do word studies I don't get new tabs all over the place.

Just check "send hyperlinks here" and your set.

I do wish there was a similar option for guides as well - hopefully it will come.

I just reread your post (should have read it better the first time:-) The way the send hyperlink here option works is resource dependent. You cant have all commentaries targeted to one tab (that would be cool), but rather one specific commentary.

In my above example I have Vines as one of my targets. Because Vines is listed by lemma - I can then use my arrow keys to go through all my other lexicons/dictionaries that use lemma - all in the same tab. The reason I have EDNT and DBL targeted as separate tabs, is that they open to page numbers and not lemma, therefore I can't use the arrow keys with them.

So if you pick you resources carefully that you target (and make sure these resources are prioritized) and then use your arrow keys - you can keep the clutter down.

I believe that they are working on getting the tabs to work like you request...commentaries go to the commentaries tab by default, guides to the guide tab, bible to the bible....etc...
