A-4 Becoming Increasingly Unstable

So far, Alpha-4 has yielded very little results for me. In fact, the more I attempt to use it the more unstable it becomes. This evening I crashed on startup. An attempted restart froze while logging in.

I will send logs again, but I am beginning to wonder if anyone cares. I have posted multiple bug reports with logs attached. Almost every one of them never received any response. I don't believe that Logos has singled me out to be ignored, for I have noticed the same thing with many other posters. We create new threads, describe the failure, and post the logs. That one post remains all alone in the thread.

So, I'll ask the pertinent question. Does anyone care if we attempt to make the software better or not? I am not angry at Logos—The Windows version is an excellent product—however, I am frustrated with constant crashes and unanswered questions.

I agree with Jack. I asked the same question last week. If someone on the Logos end is seeing the bug reports and finding even a few of them useful, then a short post acknowledging that they have been at least looked at would help. Otherwise, as an Alpha tester you don't know if you are wasting your time by posting reports here and if they aren't being read, then fine, the Alpha testers can just play with the new releases as they come out and save their time not writing about their experiences.

I am sorry that I upgraded. My system now crashes any time I try to load Logos 4. It has been a waste of money as I can no longer access anything in it - my system freezes at start up.

I question the logic of releasing an early version of this system when it is clearly a long way from being useable. I called the support number just to ask a question about the proper method for removing it from my hard drive but was told that support on Saturdays is only available for PC's - not Mac's. I don't understand the logic behind not providing the same level of service for both systems.

The Mac version is still in Alpha. That means it is not ready for serious Bible study. It is a testing platform. If you have access to Windows (either on a native box or through an emulator), you purchased the license for both versions.

When I started this thread, I was not complaining about the crashing, although mine seems more frequent than most others. My complaint is that Logos does not communicate very well.

I'm having the same issue. I've had Alpha-4 crash simply trying to open a book or do a search. In about a 3 hour time frame yesterday it probably crashed a dozen or so times just doing simple tasks like opening/searching resources.

I do understand that it is an Alpha release, but would at least like a time line from Logos.

I don't expect to see one. Logos was badly burned with predictions of the imminent release of Logos Mac (version 1).

I understand they were burned, but that was when they weren't in control. They had outsiders working on it. I WOULD think that since they are working in house that we could have a time table since everything is in there control...

Judging Logos' silence on a number of other developmental issues (L4, iphone), I gather that they won't say much on time tables. We do have one benefit though, since we can see the Alpha/Beta develop of L4 Mac, we will at least have a little indicator on the pace of development.

I can't get mine to open..it hangs at "Preparing your library". A-4 opened up just fine a few days ago, but it consistently closes down before I'm done with it.

I would hope that purchasers of Logos for Mac 4 would get the Version 1 as part of their purchase.

Logos 1.2.2 is now a free download. I don't know exactly where and you also need to either FTP the resources off the server in 3.0 format or get a DVD media only disk from Logos. (shouldn't cost much)

You have to add it to the cart and "buy" it but the cost is $0. After you finish the check out it will give you a link to the dmg to install. As far as getting the resources Donovan is right. If you go the Media only route you can get a disc aimed at the PC version as the Mac engine reads the same files as the PC version.

I agreed that A4 is exceedingly unstable. Every search that I make, it crashes. I can't really play around the software. Hope the next alpha is much stable.

On the brighter side, updates are being issued fairly regularly which speaks well of the techs reading the forums even though they don't respond as plentifully as we would like. This last version addresses some memory leaks so this should help with the indexing times. Keep the faith! This is a pre-release deal - when this gets released officially it is going to rock our worlds!!
